I'm going to do a batch of banners this weekend, so if you've been procrastinating, now's the time. This is what you earn banners for:
  • Finishing a Color
  • Posting one hundred pieces or a multiple thereof
  • Completing ten, thirty, fifty, or any multiple of fifty of any Supply or Style
  • Finish a Bichromatic, Paint-by-Numbers, or Tapestry by completing that color or those colors
  • Finish a Saturation
  • Finish a Palette. A palette is completed when all the colors have been done; they do not have to be done at the same time or in a particular order
  • Finish any of the Masterpieces
Comment here to get your banners.

Not sure if you've earned something? Try out the auto count tracker. Here's how to use it. Feel free to ask me for help

I've finally finished making plain text versions of all the color lists. My next step is to add each of them in a text box on each post, but for now, they can be found in the Google Docs repository. (there is apparently a way to hide things from screenreaders but not from sighted people, so I'll be doing that so people don't have to listen to the same list twice)

The text box will look something like this:

As mentioned before, I've been doing some tweaking.
  • Accomplishments is now called Masterpieces. I'm pretty sure I've updated it everywhere and when linked in a sidebar it says "masterpieces (challenges)".
  • Several of the Masterpieces were updated
  • the header image for Masterpieces has been updated
  • there were a few images on Supplies that kept not showing up because they were still on ibb images. So Fingerpainting and Interactive Art's images have been updated.
  • there was a question about Embroidery so I've added some q&as for it
  • the generic banner for 10 threads has been added
  • I added a second site for Chalk since Wired has a limited number of free articles
  • the Rules, Supplies, Styles, and Palettes have been proofread and where necessary edited.
  • The rules were added to the RainbowLists sidebar
  • A few more q&a were added to Styles
  • The new auto tracking sheet post is linked to on Masterpieces

Accomplishments is the only page that isn't art themed and imo, the name is easy to confuse with the goals/challenges. I propose that we rename Accomplishments to Masterworks, Masterpieces, or Showpieces.

Additionally, does anyone have any objections to me modifying some of the accomplishments to better match the theme of it, add supplies and styles that are less used, and maybe add more colors or palettes to them?

Due to the discussion we had about tabletop roleplaying game sourcebooks and Mosaics, I've made a new supply.

gesso
A piece that uses the setting, minor characters, or other aspects of a canon of someone else's invention to tell an original story with original characters. See Q&A for examples of acceptable amounts of borrowing.

Q&A
  • This was designed to allow the use of tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) sourcebooks, but other media sources are allowed. The bulk of the story must be original.
  • So I can write fanfiction, right? Not exactly. This isn't a fanfic community, so the bits you borrow should be a minor.
  • Can I use homebrewed ttrpg content? Yes.

I've also made a wip page with examples for gesso and mosaic -  - I'd appreciate comments and critique before I finalize it.

In regards to tagging, there are a few things you can do:
- not change anything and tag things as gesso from now on
- only change it in your personal records
- add gesso and !needs tags to appropriate pieces or let me know in the comments here what you would like changed

Due to the nature of the addition, no prototype achievement for it will be awarded. Gesso has been added to the tags on [community profile] rainbowfic

Hi everyone!

Back in the day we would have seasonal roleplays that allowed our characters to interact with each other. They took place over a three-day weekend, generally in a setting taken from someone's works, and had very few rules (basically, have fun, don't be a dick). We stopped doing them because participation dropped off, but it sounds like there might be interest in starting those up again.

Would you participate in a comm-wide roleplay just for fun? Would you participate if you got rewards for it? Do you think you would if it was set up differently, and if so, how? If there's sufficient interest we might run one in September or October, so please do comment if it's something you want to do.

Thanks so much!

Here are some of the older ones so you can get an idea of what it looked like originally:

I still have to finish the art for the completion banner, but you can start claiming Prototype!

https://rainbowlists.dreamwidth.org/90550.html

Be the first to use a Supply, Style, or Color (including custom palettes created by mods for events)

Put your claim on the goal completions page https://rainbowlists.dreamwidth.org/89126.html

You can go back as far in time as you want.

Added three more Accomplishments. There will be one more (prototype - for the first person to use a color), but I have to finish the art for it

There are now generic goal completion banners for everything but the Palettes. You might want to check your records - I know especially for styles there are folks that probably can take some (or request some).

I've add Questions and Answers (taken from comments from various pages) to everywhere that seemed appropriate. As always, if you have questions or suggestions, the best place to ask is in RainbowLounge, because that's where we're most likely to see it. You can also DM us.

I've started categorizing the colors, so if you go to the tags you'll see 'hue: blue' etc, as well as 'category: metallic'. I may add some other categories like neon and pastel

Some of the updated colors also have generic achievement banners and I'm working on updating the color logo (some of the ovals are football shaped and several of the colors you can see that it was altered from a red one, not to mention that most use Futura and the font should be Helvetica) (... I realize that I'm probably the one to whom that is incredibly blatant)

So far only one has all five banners (color list, retouch, paint-by-numbers, saturation, and tapestry) and that's Salmon

1. On that note, do you consider salmon a shade of pink, orange, or both?
2. to you does white include off-whites like beige or no?
3. does brown include tans and similar colors?

This is mostly for my reference, but please feel free to point out other things

Currently working on:
- Prototype achievement art
- add links as examples to the Custom Palette Color

In no particular order:
- give out completetion banners that are owed
- take photos for a few of the supplies since I can't find a picture I like (we're artists and crafters here so we have, like, all the supplies)
- do a proper mod introduction post (I'm bad at talking about myself, but in short, I'm 41, I'm a graphic designer, and I have way too many hobbies) Done
- update the out of date supplies Done
- close old completion post and make a new one
- tweak the Around the World accomplishment changed it to any six of the World ones, and tagged some more lists as world. It was the largest palette with 8 requirements.
- Maybe tweak some other accomplishments?
- on Rainbowmods update Dial-a-Mod - Done
- on Rainbowlounge make an updated Welcome sticky - Done
- fix the repeat on White Opal - added 'woolgathering'
- fix missing prompt on Outer Space - added 'comet'
- make a post somewhere to crowd-source prompts on DW, websites, tumblr, instagram - comment with them on supplies, noted on the RainbowLounge welcome post as well
- go through rainbowmods and make sure there isn't anything else - done
- give out novelty beads that are owed from previous challenges - done
- improve the rainbowlist color list colors (I'm a graphic designer and the imperfections bug me) - done!
- categorize colors so it's easier to know what color things are (I'll need some opinions on a few of the ambiguous colors) - done except for three that may need an additional hue tag
- link to discord https://discord.gg/dHddKKAN3h - linked on RainbowFic intro post and a few other places
- AO3 collection - created, need to link - linked on RainbowFic intro post
- revamp styles, supplies, palette & achievement pages to be mobile friendly - DONE
- add some more supplies/styles and accomplishments? - new everything added!
- check links on the lists that have links
- create promotion tumblr (probably a sideblog of mine) - linked on RainbowFic intro post
- make a Q&A -  added Q&As to the appropriate pages
- make generic achievement banners - generics for everything  are up

Every day this week, from Monday, September 9th, through Monday, September 16th, we will post links to three songs. Write a fic based on one of those songs. You may write three fics every day, if all three songs catch your fancy or spark something. One to 500 words will get you one novelty bead, and so on for each additional 500 words. There may also be special bonus novelty beads for completing all three fics each day and for completing all fics.

Stories are due twenty-four hours after the songs are posted.

Today's songs:

Main Stage: Bad Dream, Kesha
Second Stage: Bedroom Hymns, Florence and the Machine
Village Stage: I Want to be Evil, Eartha Kitt

Unfortunately, not your completion banners. That's next on my to-do list.

But all the banners on [community profile] rainbowlists have been moved to an ImgBB account and re-linked. All lists, styles, supplies, palettes, and accomplishments now have functional banners that will not be replaced with Photobucket's irritating "give us money!" banner.

I noticed, as I was fixing them, that several lists don't have credits for who created them. I've linked those lists under the cut. If you created it, please comment here to let me know so I can fix it. (I know these are all at least a couple of years old and people may have moved on or may not recall, but I'd like to credit as many of these as possible.)

Uncredited lists )

And, of course, if you have other lists you'd like posted, just message the mod account.

Our annual Dead Time prompts and a fan favorite event!

-Dead-Time meaning no more than one hour can be spent on any stories produced (it's like flash fiction that way).

-And you must use a prompt before pulling a new one, although you can mulligan if nothing comes to you in a day.

-Stories to run in the comm at 1 novelty bead per post. You can pull as many as you want through the event. The posting limit will be raised to seven stories per day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

And as always, prompts are surreal finds from around tumblr. GET READY WRITERS YOUR MOMENT OF GLORY APPROACHES.

COMMENT FOR PROMPTS.

ETA: Think I got that fixed. Think...

One of our members has suggested an excellent Style idea that we would really like to put into practice! However, we the mods are having some difficulties coming up with another Style to keep things even. So we are now soliciting ideas for new Supplies and Styles! Leave your suggestions in this post.

Thank you in advance!

Whew! 2016 is finally over. I hope everyone is doing amazing. Sorry this post is a bit late, but two of the mods have a new house tradition (OK, it's new for me)-- cleaning all of the things!

So, what are you awesome writer goals for the new year? Do you need some inspirational poking? Doing that January free write meme that's going around and could use some extra promptness? Just want to blither on about your recent spat of bat research for a while?

We all know each other OR MAYBE WE DON'T but anyway, we stuck it out another year. Let's rap.

Thank you all for being wonderful. And kicking NaNo butt, as I've heard.
