This is the place for any questions or suggestions you have for [community profile] rainbowfic , [community profile] rainbowlists , and [community profile] rainbowlounge . This includes 'how does this work?', 'does this supply or style count for this?' and 'what are the limits on this?'

There are a good amount of things that have fuzzy limits or definitions and that's okay. You're allowed to use your judgement of how to use a list, supply, style, etc. But I also want to acknowledge that not everyone is comfortable with ambiguity and that some people need more concrete answers. So this is where to get those (and then it'll be added to the appropriate page). But there are no tag/prompt/writing police here

Anyone can answer (please, if you've been here longer, jump in and help). Please take time to check what the different [community profile] rainbowlists pages say because they might have the answer, but don't be afraid to ask something that seems obvious: it may be that I need to clarify a description or q&a. Checking the tags on [community profile] rainbowfic to see how something has been used is also a good way to get answers, or at least precedent.

I'll be using these as a resource to find things that need to be added or improved in the q&as on Rainbowlist

I talked about it on the discord, but here's the "official" idea:

Description:
Use tarot, oracle cards, runes, I Ching, dice, or another divination method for inspiration. See Q&A below.

Q&A
- Can I use a horoscope? We have Glue already for looking up horoscopes, but if you create your own it would count for this.
- Minimum cards/runes/etc? At least one.
- Here are some online sources for randomly drawn things.

Proposed name:
- Tempera because it's one of the oldest types of paint
- Easel because you sort of prop your interpretations on the cards/etc
- Tape to pair with Glue (the horoscope of the day)

Comments? Objections? Suggestions?

Things of note:
- Proposal: Alternative lists for Emerald and Wizard? - I'm still working on these!
- Prompt list suggestion: Offspring lyrics - a proposed list that could use ideas for names
[personal profile] paradoxcase
I was thinking about future prompt applications and browsing the music lists, and saw some artists there that I remembered fondly from when I was a teenager, and then that made me start thinking that it would be neat if there were an Offspring lyrics list, since they were my favorite band back then and I think they have some lyrics that are pretty relatable or are otherwise just good writing prompts. This list is just from their earlier stuff (Ignition, Smash, Ixnay, and Americana, but mostly Ignition and Smash), since that's the music I mainly listened to. I didn't originally create this with the intent to use it for something in particular, it was originally just a collection of favorite Offspring lyrics, but after I assembled it I came up with some ideas about how to use it after I've finished the Fulcrum, so if this gets approved then I may actually use it at some point in the distant future. This also made me realize how often they rhyme "away" with itself, haha.

I don't really have any ideas for what the color should be. I associate them with yellow or orange, mainly because of album covers, but that's all I've got. Maybe incorporate the name "Ignition" in it somehow? Is there a color that epitomizes 90s punk? I have no idea.

I've linked the songs below.

1. All I know is I gotta get away from me - Gotta Get Away (Smash)
2. When the rain comes I sit home and pray / Make it all numb, I wish it all away / All I really need is just somewhere to hide away - Kick Him When He's Down (Ignition)
3. I got a bad habit / Of blowing away / I got a bad habit / And it ain't goin' away - Bad Habit (Smash) (Minor warning that this has a, uh, very clearly articulated string of profanity in it)
4. The more you suffer / The more it shows you really care / Right? - Self Esteem (Smash)
5. Here alone I'll put up and fight / Beat me all the way, I'll take it all night / Hey don't worry, I'll get along home alright - Kick Him When He's Down (Ignition) again
6. Hey, don't pay no mind / You're under 18, you won't be doing any time - Come Out And Play (Smash)
7. Take it to the jury, but they don't give a damn / Because the one who tells the truth is always the policeman - L.A.P.D. (Ignition) (Warning: This song contains the n-word, used as a slur, in mocking imitation of a racist cop.)
8. So if you don't rate / Just overcompensate / At least you know you can always go on Ricki Lake - Pretty Fly (For A White Guy) (Americana)
9. It's all good and we ain't gonna change now / The world is unaware / So if you want, go on and stare / 'Cause we don't care - Me And My Old Lady (Ixnay on the Hombre)
10. And it feels, and it feels like / Heaven's so far away / And it feels, yeah it feels like / The world has grown cold / Now that you've gone away - Gone Away (Ixnay on the Hombre)
11. Know where I'll be, make this confession / Back in her bed for another goddamn session - Session (Ignition)
12. Chances thrown, nothing's free / Longing for what used to be / Still it's hard, hard to see / Fragile lives, shattered dreams - The Kids Aren't Alright (Americana)
13. We are one, and it won't be news / When we hang ourselves with one collective noose - We Are One (Ignition)
14. Your never-ending spree of death and violence and hate / Is gonna tie your own rope - Come Out And Play (Smash) again
15. Dog eat dog, every day / On our fellow man we prey / Dog eat dog, to get by / Hope you like my genocide - Genocide (Smash)

(Yes, Kick Him When He's Down and Come Out And Play are good enough to get two prompts each.)

Undecided if we should remove Ricki Lake from prompt 8, since that show hasn't aired for over 20 years and I'm not sure if people still know what it is.

What with JK Rowling going mask-off TERF (among many other failings), I'm pretty uncomfortable having lists for Harry Potter.  We have two: Wizard and Emerald.

On the other hand, I don't want to erase lists that previous members contributed

I'd already used my moderator privilege to remove Emerald from the Palette it was in (iirc, it was Jewelry Box and I replaced it with another gemstone). But I'd like to go a step further and either replace the list or offer a second list that people can use instead (I was thinking Wizard of Oz - Baum was not a great person either, but he's dead and not currently trying to make the world worse)

I did something similar with Rich Black to reflect Pluto being recategorized as a dwarf planet, but this would go further.

Opinions? Suggestions for replacements for Wizard? (I was thinking Diane Duane's Wizard series...)

Hello, I recently joined up and am really excited to start! My story has some Jewish themes, so I thought it would be neat if there was a Jewish-spirituality-themed prompt list to remind me to integrate some additional themes as well. I've tried to keep this to a short 10-item list mainly dealing with concepts from ethics and interpersonal relationships, rather than including specific rites like brit or bar/bat mitzvah, or specific holidays or texts, so that it can be more relevant to a fictional religion, or even a non-religious story. I've added English translations, and I believe many of these have Wikipedia articles that could be linked, as well.

Color: Techelet (a shade of blue, I have no opinion on exactly what it should look like)

Prompts:

1. Chesed (loving kindness)
2. Tzedakah (obligation to charity)
3. Teshuvah (repentence)
4. Tashlich (casting off sins)
5. Tikkun Olam (repairing the world)
6. Olam Haba'a (the world to come)
7. Mitzvah (commandment)
8. Gemilut Chasadim (acts of loving kindness)
9. Shalom (peace)
10. Mechilah (forgiveness)

Chesed and Gemilut Chasadim seem kind of similar in the English translation, but I think usually Chesed is God's love for humanity and Gemilut Chasadim means humans doing kind and loving things for each other.

Anyway, please let me know if you think there's something glaringly obvious missing from the list or if you have a better translation or romanization for something.

These lists contain linked words in threes and fours, which I thought could also be handy for triptych (if people want to use them that way). They also work as normal prompts etc.

Specific queries - if anyone has any substitutions for better fandom trio-sets for the tumblr blue prompt set I'm happy to hear them - thanks to Cindybug and Ilthit for dreaming up most of them for me!

The last two 'three' sets, I used colours I could find with the word three in the title, but I'm not sure I'm happy with those entirely or that they might be better used for other sets - if anyone has any more appropriate ideas, I'd be happy to rename them. (The ones that were more contrasts/linked words, I stuck to the mineral themes, so those are okay, although I apologise if the colours are more awkward to do!)

With thanks to everybody in the Discord who helped me come up with things (and wiki's Irreversible Binomial page!)

As promised (or threatened), more 30 prompt lists, this time for contrasting or paired word sets. Because I like these and we don't seem to have many that I've found so far, I've also made a few more, especially since they could be useful for the diptych style.

In two posts - this one with the main 30 prompt sets with this theme. (I did them all together to try and help avoid duplicating too many prompts with very similar pairs of words.)

Category = minerals (striped), because I noticed that the two contrasts lists we already had used this.

Let me know if you spot any very similar prompts across the lists, and I'll try to replace them.

(Mod, if these are agreed, could you possibly copy and paste them in directly to the html editor when you post even if you switch to rtf to edit - the last few lists all have wound up with auto-numbering, which vanishes when you copy it into a document to use - I had to go back and find my original posts to get a version that didn't make me retype the numbers. Thank you! <3)

Color name: Arclight

Unfortunately, I can't find that many images of arc lights or arc lamps. There are a few pictures on this site: https://edisontechcenter.org/ArcLamps.html

Theme: Music (VNV Nation Lyrics)

1. Though I know where this could take me/ No tears no sympathy
2. You were the warmth of their hearts, you were the sum of their dreams
3. Never to be ruled nor held to heel/ No heaven or hell, just the land between
4. All too obsessed by weakness/ We have brought ourselves to meaninglessness
5. Only embers now smoulder/ Where bridges once burned
6. Forget your fears, you will have everything/ And want no more
7. Shall I think of honour as lies/ Or lament its aged and slow demise?
8. Circumstances afford me/ No second chance to tell you/ How much I've missed you
9. Are these not words of heresy/ A venom on my lips, a poison?
10. And if I have strength then I've belief/ If I have love my heart still beats

(Yes, I made this just so I can do a bichromatic with Chrome)

I'll check these posts at least once a week and I'll be using these as a resource to find things that need to be added or improved in the q&as on Rainbowlist

We have a new sticky post for the collaborative supplies
