One more thing this month (or whenever you want to use it) to inspire you to make things!

This is 24 days of prompts randomly selected from color lists. It's on tumblr and the image is below the cut (text list and explanation at the tumblr link)

No novelty beads for this, there's more than enough going around. Also no deadline.

SPRING CLEANING
Posting Community | Social Community | Rules | Colour Prompts | Supply Prompts | Style Prompts | Long Term Achievements

Spring cleaning is a good time to take stock of what we have accumulated and make some conscious decisions as to what we cherish and want to build on, and what could use some tidying up. The same is true for writing.

Below the cut you'll find a plethora of challenges (from writing, to refining and promoting your existing work, to comment-participation.) All participants will be awarded with a special badge. If you finish entries for the special 10-prompt colour, "Kondo", you may achieve an additional badge.

That was a really flash-fiction challenge. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Post with the number of pieces you were able to finish, and I'll respond with an equivalent number of novelty beads--as well as a graphic badge for participation. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but one novelty bead = one special prompt, which you can fulfill to say you used X amount of 'novelty bead' supplies towards future badges, right?)

Badges for participants behind the cut )

With this community feeling a little sleepy and quiet, how would you care for a spring-cleaning-themed challenge next month? That could include editing and updating previous writing you want cleaned up (and posting it with Retouch, Nubs, or Sculpture tag), or trying for a matched set of drabbles (A la miniature or stained glass collection), or writing for a challenge-specific 'tidying' colour? What about any administrative tidying that might help make your writing archives more reader-friendly?

What kinds of writing inspo or kicks in the butt do you feel like you need, these days?

Hey!

If you completed Light the Flamethrower, let me know here!

And if you didn't quite, let me know how many Octarines you got through anyway. ;)

Also if you did the Hollywood Reboot minichallenge a few weeks ago, let me know that here too.

The Hollywood reboots were fun. Thanks for letting me RUIN YOUR BABIES.

I think I got to everyone who wanted one, but if I DIDN'T LET ME KNOW! I bet I can sneak a few in here while the mod's away. ;)

For this challenge which I definitely did not ask mod approval for, task is to reboot either your own or someone else's story (with permission) like a completely unnecessary Hollywood reboot - make nonsensical plot changes, assure that your casting is as improbable (and possibly offensive) as possible, and remember to get that Strong Female Character in there!

The jig is up when the mods are back but for every piece of reboot fiction, "casting" post or faux movie trailer you post, I'll make sure I sneak a novelty bead in your pocket later.

I was thinking about taking on Octarine as a tribute to Terry Pratchett, and after talking with one of the mods, decided to go ahead and set it up as a special early spring challenge if anyone else is interested.

Octarine is a 30-prompt color, and that's not a small commitment, so this challenge will run through the 21st of June. If you complete the whole color, I will craft a new color just for you, on a theme you choose. If you complete the color as a saturation, I will give you five novelty beads.

So, uh, this challenge from *cough* August 2013? I actually didn't forget about it. ;P

To recap: any story written on this comm between August 20, 2013 and February 20, 2014 using a prompt from one of the 99 color lists listed in the linked post - the lists nobody had used yet as of the challenge start date - earned one novelty bead per prompt used from a previously unwritten color list.

Thirteen of y'all amazing writers participated in the challenge, and earned 281 Novelty Beads prompts between you. (Which I haven't handed out yet because, you know, 281 prompts. It's taking me a little time to pull those together. ;P) Congratulations to [personal profile] ofmonstrouswords, [personal profile] alexconall, [personal profile] five_steps_back, [profile] thebonesofferallletters, [personal profile] greenling, [personal profile] jkatkina, [personal profile] serpentine, [personal profile] kay_brooke, [personal profile] rustydragonfly, [personal profile] bookblather, [personal profile] dark_kana, and [personal profile] shadowsong26!

Did you post some Free Candy? Let me know and collect your beads!

And hey, because candy is always dandy, if you write one later you can come back and have one too.

I think we need some fluff up in here, so with the mods' blessing, I am offering the Free Candy challenge.

Free Candy is a variety of AU I made up in an attempt to lighten up the Epsilon universe a while ago, and while it didn't do a whole lot of good there, the idea stuck. Basically the name is short for AUs Where Everything Went Well And Nothing Horrible Happened And There's Free Candy For Everybody.

Ideally it's an AU where your character's Tragic Backstory never Tragicked, but I'm not going to insist on that since... like, I have a hard time picturing a tragedy-free version of certain stories that I love reading. Generally it counts as Free Candy if there's no angst, no drama more challenging than the average episode of Leave It To Beaver, and a happy ending. Happy poly solutions to love triangles are encouraged but not required.

This challenge will run through next weekend (so I'll put up the wrap-up post on the 9th) and is mod-approved to qualify as a Graffiti. Participation gets one prompt, 1k gets an extra prompt, 2k gets another, etc up to 10k. Word counts are cumulative, so if you write more than one, you get a bead for each and additionals for the word count total. Actually writing an AU where everyone grew up happy, had healthy relationships and amicable breakups, and nobody suffered horribly or died will be worth an extra novelty bead.

Questions are welcome in the comments below, but please keep in mind that I'm really easy-going about this so if you think it qualifies, and it's fluffy, it probably qualifies. I'm not going to police your joy.

Greetings, RainbowLounge!

We've had a lot of new colors created lately. In fact, I am proud to announce that exactly 99 of the colors on [community profile] rainbowlists have never been written on [community profile] rainbowfic. Go, color-makers! *high five*

Now let's whittle that down. ;-) Under the cut is a complete list of the 99 unwritten colors. Feel free to browse it the next time you're looking for a new color to write!

I'm also offering a challenge based on this list: six months from now (i.e. on February 21, 2014), I'll give out one Novelty Bead for each prompt written from any of these color lists, up to three Novelty Beads per story. I'll give five Novelty Beads for each saturation of any of these colors, and ten Novelty Beads for any saturations that pair two of these full color lists in the same story.

To be clear, these colors are NOT eligible for "special sixth color" treatment. You can only write them as one of your regular five colors active at any time, or by writing saturations. If you have five colors active right now, you need to finish one before you can add one of these colors.

ETA: This counts for Graffiti, once per writer per color, i.e. a whole color list or a saturation completed is one Graffiti. (Thank you [personal profile] subluxate!)

Here be colors! :D )

Hold aloft your transformation lockets, fellow authors! It's time to inflict some love and justice on your characters!

I'm working on this magical girl AU, and it occurred to me that it would be fun to see magical girl AUs in other people's universes too. I figure the obvious way to do this is an eraser, but I think a mosaic might work too. Either way, the results should be awesome.

Sailor Moon's birthday is June 30th, so to celebrate, I'll post a round up that day and anyone who partakes of this craziness with me will get five mahou shoujo-related novelty beads.
