Our how's our modding post is always open for comments.

P.S. We're always looking for more Novelty Bead sources. If you know of a prompt generator, list of songs, quote site, or anything else that might be used as a prompt resource, please do leave a comment. Thanks!

Why is writing so goddamn hard?

Or, is anyone else having a hard time writing this year? Everything seems to be going to hell in a handbasket so my writing might as well go along, is how I apparently feel.

I would like to apologize formally for dropping the ball on this community. These last couple of weeks have been a garbage fire, but it's still on me, and I will do my very best not to let that happen again. Let's get me back on the rails and start our fall art movement!

Cubism

Set yourself a goal that you think you can complete between today, September 20th, and December 1st. This can be a number of colors completed, a certain palette, a number of styles or supplies used, a word count, a combination of these-- anything that you regard as a challenge. Comment on this post with your goal.

On December 1st, one of the mods will put up a post where you can comment reiterating your goal and whether or not you completed it. If you complete your goal, you get twenty Novelty Beads prompts, with an additional five prompt for every quarter to third you go over your goal, at the mods' discretion.

Goal-setting runs from today, September 20th, to October 15th. The challenge runs from today to December 1st. We will have an Amnesty Week immediately after as usual.

Set your goals in this post, and happy writing!

Good afternoon, writers!

The Summer Film Festival ended yesterday, which means today through next Friday, it's Amnesty Week! Complete and post any challenge for full credit. Find the challenge list here.

To claim your novelty beads for any summer event, including the ones posted during Amnesty Week, simply post a link to the story and the challenge you filled here, and the beads will be yours.

Next Saturday, a new seasonal challenge period begins! Get excited!

Today, post a fic for any of the previous songs that maybe you didn't quite get done in time. Or select a song of your own (must be by a woman or female-led band) and write a fic for that.

Have fun!

Every day this week, from today, August 14th, through Monday, August 21st, we will post links to three songs. Write a fic based on one of those songs. You may write three fics every day, if all three songs catch your fancy or spark something. One to 500 words will get you one novelty bead, and so on for each additional 500 words. There may also be special bonus novelty beads for completing all three fics each day and for completing all fics.

Stories are due twenty-four hours after the songs are posted.

Today's songs:

Main Stage: Don't Let Me Fall, Lenka
Second Stage: Brandy Alexander, Feist
Village Stage: August, Rilo Kiley

Our annual Dead Time prompts and a fan favorite event!

-Dead-Time meaning no more than one hour can be spent on any stories produced (it's like flash fiction that way).

-And you must use a prompt before pulling a new one, although you can mulligan if nothing comes to you in a day.

-Stories to run in the comm at 1 novelty bead per post. You can pull as many as you want through the event. The posting limit will be raised to seven stories per day Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

And as always, prompts are surreal finds from around tumblr. GET READY WRITERS YOUR MOMENT OF GLORY APPROACHES.

COMMENT FOR PROMPTS.

ETA: Think I got that fixed. Think...

Hey guys! Remember the summer challenge? Of course you do. Well, Short Films, SWL's annual dead-time prompts draw, is going to begin tomorrow probably pretty late at night, and continue all the way through Sunday night at midnight.

I would also like to announce that Lilith Faire, which was also TBA, will be held August 13th through August 20th. I look forward to seeing all your entries!

Don't forget to keep on writing for all the other summer challenges!

Welcome to our first challenge of the summer film festival! This is Red Carpet.

Every day this week, I or another mod will post a picture of an outfit. Write a story inspired somehow by that outfit. Interpret 'inspired' however you like. You have seven days to post a story from the time the outfit is posted-- so, you can post a story inspired by today's outfit anytime until Monday, June 19th. Finally, for each story you post, receive one novelty bead per 500 words or fraction thereof.

Everybody ready? Here we go!
