Hi there, and welcome to the lounge!

We use the lounge for games, discussion, challenges, Paint-by-Numbers lists, and so on. Members of [community profile] rainbowfic are encouraged to join, since we also post community announcements here. If you need a mod, posting here is probably the fastest way. There will regularly(-ish) be a post for questions and suggestions that can also be used for general discussion.

Recent mod challenges

Any member can post or start a discussion or game!

Some more places associated with RainbowFic are: [community profile] justcreate, with weekly posts to check-in and get encouragement with anything you need to do; the discord for both RainbowFic and JustCreate (let [personal profile] silvercat17 know if the link expires); RainbowFic on tumblr; and our collection on Archive of Our Own.

We also have a Google Drive Folder full of resources. More information here.

Do you want to do a collage, interactive art, paint-by-numbers, or mosaic? Want somebody to do a collage of your universe? This is the place to share details about your canon, ask permission, and set up collaborations.

You can comment here, link to details somewhere else, or answer questions.

Hello, all!

Thanks for participating in the Art Movement: Arts and Crafts Challenge! If you finished your challenge, post here to claim your novelty beads.

Today also begins Amnesty Week. If you didn't finish your Art Movement goal, or if you didn't complete the TV Tropes Challenge, take this week to finish either one for full novelty bead credit. Post here to collect those beads as well.

Thank you, and keep an eye out for future challenges!

Hi all!

It has been a LONG time since we did the TV Tropes Game, so let's go again!

Leave a comment on the post and I will leave you five random tropes from TV Tropes. Use two in a story and get five novelty beads. Of course, if you feel up to a challenge, you can use more than two. You'll get an extra novelty bead per trope used.

The game will run from today, March 1st, to Wednesday, April 1st. You can get a new set of tropes after you've posted the first story-- there's no limit to the number you can get except your own writing speed. You can also mulligan, but it's more fun if you give it a shot.

If you get a trope that is racist, sexist, ableist, whatever, and don't want to use it, let me know and I will redraw one for you (since a mulligan would be an entirely new draw of five tropes). If a trope would be triggery for you, same thing goes. This should be fun, not painful or hurty, so please don't hesitate to ask!

Mods are not liable for time lost to TV Tropes.

Arts and Crafts

Set yourself a goal that you think you can complete between today, February 1st, and May 1st. This can be a number of colors completed, a certain palette, a number of styles or supplies used, a word count, a combination of these-- anything that you regard as a challenge. Comment on this post with your goal.

On May 1st, one of the mods will put up a post where you can comment reiterating your goal and whether or not you completed it. If you complete your goal, you get twenty Novelty Beads prompts. If you can sell your goal as being related to the Arts and Crafts movement, you'll get five prompts whether you completed it or not.

Goal-setting runs from today, February 1st, to February 15th. The challenge runs from today to May 1st. We will have an Amnesty Week immediately after.

Set your goals in this post, and happy writing!

This is the place for any questions or suggestions you have for [community profile] rainbowfic , [community profile] rainbowlists , and [community profile] rainbowlounge . This includes 'how does this work?', 'does this supply or style count for this?' and 'what are the limits on this?'

There are a good amount of things that have fuzzy limits or definitions and that's okay. You're allowed to use your judgement of how to use a list, supply, style, etc. But I also want to acknowledge that not everyone is comfortable with ambiguity and that some people need more concrete answers. So this is where to get those (and then it'll be added to the appropriate page). But there are no tag/prompt/writing police here

Anyone can answer (please, if you've been here longer, jump in and help). Please take time to check what the different [community profile] rainbowlists pages say because they might have the answer, but don't be afraid to ask something that seems obvious: it may be that I need to clarify a description or q&a. Checking the tags on [community profile] rainbowfic to see how something has been used is also a good way to get answers, or at least precedent.

I'll be using these as a resource to find things that need to be added or improved in the q&as on Rainbowlist

It's October! Let's get spooky!

This October, write a horror story. You'll get one novelty bead for every five hundred words or fraction thereof. If you'd like to add a bonus level of difficulty, comment here with a number from 1 to 25 and I'll give you a horror subgenre to write in. All stories for this challenge will count for both chiaroscuro and graffiti.

Spook it up, writers! Let's see what you got.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to our annual Lilith Faire challenge!

Every day, I will post links to three songs by female or nonbinary artists. Write a story based on one of those songs. You may write three stories every day, if all three songs catch your fancy or spark something. One to 500 words will get you one novelty bead, and so on for each additional 500 words. There may also be special bonus novelty beads for completing all three stories each day and for completing all stories.

Stories are due one week after the songs are posted, from whatever the timestamp on the post is. I'll try to get them up as close to midnight EST as possible.

Any questions? Ask them here!

We have a new supply for divination methods like tarot, I Ching, runes, etc.

Because of the length, I put websites to get randomly selected ones in a comment. Thank you to [personal profile] thisbluespirit for finding so many sources.

I'll be putting up posts that can be used for Tempera on the RainbowFic tumblr

The tag has been added to RainbowFic and the auto count list has been updated (you can just copy in that row in the supplies tab).

Hello, everyone!

Did you know that July is Disability Pride Month in the United States? This month, write about a disabled character. These stories will count for life drawing. Earn 1 novelty bead per 500 words or fraction thereof.

Go forth and write! I look forward to seeing your works.

I talked about it on the discord, but here's the "official" idea:

Description:
Use tarot, oracle cards, runes, I Ching, dice, or another divination method for inspiration. See Q&A below.

Q&A
- Can I use a horoscope? We have Glue already for looking up horoscopes, but if you create your own it would count for this.
- Minimum cards/runes/etc? At least one.
- Here are some online sources for randomly drawn things.

Proposed name:
- Tempera because it's one of the oldest types of paint
- Easel because you sort of prop your interpretations on the cards/etc
- Tape to pair with Glue (the horoscope of the day)

Comments? Objections? Suggestions?

I'm going to do a batch of banners this weekend, so if you've been procrastinating, now's the time. This is what you earn banners for:
  • Finishing a Color
  • Posting one hundred pieces or a multiple thereof
  • Completing ten, thirty, fifty, or any multiple of fifty of any Supply or Style
  • Finish a Bichromatic, Paint-by-Numbers, or Tapestry by completing that color or those colors
  • Finish a Saturation
  • Finish a Palette. A palette is completed when all the colors have been done; they do not have to be done at the same time or in a particular order
  • Finish any of the Masterpieces
Comment here to get your banners.

Not sure if you've earned something? Try out the auto count tracker. Here's how to use it. Feel free to ask me for help
