Caught Sweetly Between Love and Family
This year, Valentine's Day neatly flanks the weekend for Family Day in my province, so I thought I'd propose a mini-challenge to help shake the snow off those stories you may have in hibernation.

Promote this Event
- The Challenge
- 💗 Each entry should be between 100-1000 words long.
- 💗 Writing can be done individually, or with a partner (RP should be polished up to read comfortably, either from one POV or with smooth transitions between POV’s), or borrowing another member’s setting or characters (so long as you have permission from the other person!)
- 💗 You may use any active colours, styles, and supplies to accompany this challenge as you like. I'd suggest pink, white, or red colours. If you're looking to start a new colour (remember you can have a max of 5 active at one time, and in each entry, you can only use one prompt from a single colour, up to three colours total), I've put together a spreadsheet here to help you get started.
- 💗 Entries must be completed by Tuesday, February 19th.
- 💗 Please refresh yourself on the Community Rules if you are new or have been absent for some time.
- 💗 Please post entries in
rainbowfic, using the appropriate header found in the rules. If you need a new tag (eg: "author: [your name]" or "story: [your story's name]", please use the tag "! needs tags" and we'll get that added ASAP. Use these tags for each new entry.- 💗 You may use other writing community prompts and cross-post to other communities, however, if cross-posting outside of
rainbowfic, ask permission first if you use another person's character, setting, etc. If they are not comfortable with their IP being cross-posted elsewhere, keep it inside this community.
- OPTION ONE:
- 💘 Write about a particular relationship, event, or character’s perspective anywhere on the spectrum of romantic love and family. Entries don’t have to be fluffy, but even if a character is in a rough patch or of an evil disposition it would be good to pick out a silver lining somewhere in the entry.
- OPTION TWO:
- 💘 Icebreakers and intra-character smishes! Fill out the form below for any characters you'd like to offer for this event. Then, write a short blurb that involves one of your characters hugging theirs, making introductions, being friendly, offering chocolates, or otherwise offering some friendly TLC. Note that if you submit a character via the form, you're giving permission for somebody else to write for them (for this event only). You may wish to AU your character into their setting or vice versa. Have fun!
- Rewards
- 💗 Each entry will garner one novelty bead (at the discretion of the mods).
- 💗 If you submit at least one entry, you can win a special holiday badge, obtainable after Tuesday, February 19th. Get that trophy! Spread that love!
- Special Tiers
- 💘 Depending on turn-out and participation, I will also award badges based on most entries in each category above, Best Hug, Mushiest Moment, Friendliest Folks, and maybe others. Invite a friend, do some collab-work, or remind another old-time participant to come drop by for a visit and a few more awards. Let me know if you have promoted this event outside of rainbowfic, and I will create a special badge for your effort.

- 💗 Fill the below form out and paste it in the comments. Other members may choose to borrow a character to create an entry for Option 2 described above. Note that this grants permission for other members to use your character in rainbowfic only for this event. Please respect any requests made with each comment.
- Character Sheet Descriptions
- 💘 Character Name: Full name? What they go by in conversation? Nicknames?
- 💘 Character Gender/Pronouns: How are they referred to?
- 💘 Character's Story: What is the genre, and are there notable features of the setting? If you have posted entries to this character's story in rainbowfic before, please link to the tag, or to one to three specific entries that give a better feeling for the character.
- 💘 Notable Favourites: What gifts would they most appreciate? What should other characters avoid getting them?
- 💘 How sociable are they?: What's an ideal way that another character can break the ice? What would they find unbearably awkward? What might surprise them?
- 💘 Hug Style?: What kind of hugs does your character give, when they're willing to give them? Does it change for new acquaintances vs. long-time friends?
- 💘 Willing to have your character AU'd?: Is it okay if someone 'ports' your character into their setting to better fit their world? Alternately, do you mind them handwaving that your character and theirs are already in a friendship, or more? What levels of AUing are you comfortable with?
- 💘 Special Requests: Would you like to see your character receive anything special, or is there anything thematic you'd like to see in an entry containing your character?
- 💘 Restrictions: If you're uncomfortable with anything in particular (eg: romance or other particular themes) please note them here.
