Eraser Month

For December, let's have an eraser challenge. Write an AU of your story. Set it in space, or change one little decision. Maybe your protagonist breaks up with their soulmate, or your villain wins. Previously established AUs do count, but new ones are more fun. Earn 1 novelty bead per 500 words or fraction thereof.
I can't wait to see what AUs arise!
ETA: Deadline for this challenge is 11:59 on New Year's Eve in whatever your time zone is.
