New Styles ideas & Help me name some palettes

These are the styles I'm thinking of adding. I'd like your thoughts and any other styles you'd like to propose
  • life drawing - about minority characters (queer, disabled, people of color, etc)
  • silhouette - romance
  • vaudeville - comedy and humor
  • chiaroscuro - horror and angst
  • en plein air - epistolary (written as a letters, blog posts, private messages, and other communiques)
  • cut-away - an exploration of a place or thing. Characters can be present but not focused on
  • diptych / triptych - two/three pieces that reflect or interact with each other thematically (could involve flashbacks / flash forwards, but can't simply be chronological)
  • panorama - a piece of worldbuilding: history, cultural information, etc
  • mobile - interactive fiction, made in Twine, html, etc with at least 3 branches (basically a choose-your-own-adventure story)
  • folk art - crafts, fingernail art, puppets, or other 3d objects or digital 3d art
  • postcard - 101 to 200 words
  • embroidery floss - dialogue only
thoughts? objections? additions?

We have three palettes for particular colors (Pretty in Pink, Got the Blues, and Green with Envy). I'd like to do the same for the other colors, but there are a few I can't come up with a good name for. The only requirements are that it have the name of the color in it and it not be something super obscure.
  • Yellow - the best I've come up with is Yellow Journalism, which is terrible
  • Brown - I'm currently leaning toward Quick Brown Fox, but I'd like ideas
  • Orange - best I've got is Orange Orchard

I like these! \o/

I'm not so sure about the genre ones, although I can't tell you exactly why; something doesn't feel right (not very useful, lol)! But all the others seem excellent ideas to me, and I would certainly be using some of them.

ETA (Sorry for all the editing again - there was a lot of waffle here earlier & I've deleted it.) I think with the genres, they might want to be either more technical or specific - as it stands, anyone with a tendency to write pieces with romance, or with romantic/dark/humorous canon could just use those styles ad nauseum; plus I feel all the others are well defined/specific technical challenges while a whole genre is too loose by itself. So maybe either something like: "rewrite a piece to change the tone" or "change the tone of canon to a different gener" type of thing (romance as horror, horror as comedy etc.) or pick a specific technical aspect of those genres - sex scene/physical intimacy, or jump scare (i'm trying to think of a term for "creepy scene setting" but *waves*) or contruct a piece around a punchline/joke/pun - something like that where both the author and mod know exactly where they are. (Probably not those, but something that relates to a technical aspect of creating for those genres, or genre-switching instead, so that it specifies a tone-change to a canon or a piece, regardless of which genre to which.) I hope that makes sense!

I'm also a little unsure of whether there's a need for postcard as well as miniature & miniature collection, although in itself it's otherwise perfectly sensible and clear, and obv I do recognise that it is different - just maybe not different enough perhaps?? I like the idea of a more looser short category, though, so idk. I do like it, I'm just wondering! (There are quite a number of supplies/styles; it probably wouldn't do to let it get too overwhelming in choice, fun as that sounds at the same time. XD)

Anyway, mostly this is a YAY, but hopefully with a bit of useful feedback. <3

Okay, I refuse to edit that comment one more time, have all my apologies for my errors and trying to straighten out my thoughts, but with the Postcard style, I think it could work if Miniature is redefined to perfect drabbles only (if that change was acceptable to all mods and people), and Postcard is then, say, anything under 250 words that isn't a perfect drabble (or double drabble), which makes them two different kinds of challenges. Otherwise, I'm not sure it's needed? It's nice, but...

Alright. I'll give some on the styles I'm more interested in.

life drawing: absolutely a favorite because if they're not queer, I'm not writing about them.

silhouette: sounds fun.

actually, these genre-specific styles are neat. I guess it's my AO3 soul that enjoys classifications to make it easier to find content. (also, could whump be classified as angst? or angst-adjacent.)

cut-away & panorama: they give me the same vibe of photograph, a kind of style I'd use for writing exercise. good for self-indulgency and for readers that already like the world/story. Bonus content energy, which I love.

postcard: I'm all for the challenge of word count limitations. if I was creative enough, I'd give suggestions to a lot of word count options.

embroidery floss: it speaks directly to my wannaby playwright days.

my main takeaway is that those are styles I'd use a lot.

on palettes: can't offer a name. quick brown fox sounds cute. the only name that comes to me is yellowjackets.

will be a palette for red?

that's good to know. I'm a whump lover first, human second (even if I don't write whump that often)

cool, cool, I really like the red color lists. nice name.
