Summertime RP

The thing about the City is that it's incredibly easy to get there by accident, much more than most people think. A turn through a place where reality is a little squishy, an office building with an extra hallway, an underground walkway you discover by accident, sometimes even a door that just, for some reason, has decided it doesn't feel like depositing you where it ought. Lots of times people wander through the City and out the other side and never even notice aside from a little discomfort in the back of their mind.

Sometimes reality is a little more of a soft cheese than usual, however, and there's a sudden influx in one or another part of the City. Usually when this happens it's one of the busier parts of town but...

Well, today you happen to take a wrong turn, or a door that doesn't go quite like it should, and you find yourself in a building that almost looks abandoned. There's no telling whether that rug has been untouched for a hundred years or a thousand, the tapestries on the walls are faded and the silks are not so much moth-eaten as simply falling victim to entropy. As you continue on, though, you come to a knot of rooms that feel lived in. A kitchen still smells of spices, a small library has books unfolded on a desk with no sign of dust, an empty room has a polished floor and smells of sweat.

What must be the main room is clearly maintained, with clean, if cracked, stone floors and polished mahogany furniture. The floor is covered with scattered glass pieces and the occasional sparking light. A redheaded young man is bent over, trying to gather them up and not having the best luck at it.

Well. Now what?

(Hello and welcome to the summer roleplay! Please keep hands and feet inside at all times. You get Robin because I don't have a Jian icon right now. Oops. I'll try to fix that later.)

Perching on the arm of the couch, Dee considers her next statement before speaking. "Let's just say in my family, you do what you can to be distinct. Everyone carves out a place for themself. And chooses a name, or a few of them."

Glory thought about that for a moment, still stroking the kitten carefully. "I think I understand? My family isn't that big, so you don't need to work as hard to be different. I mean, there's just me and Mama and Papa, and then my cousins."

She nods. "Hey, that's gotta be nice. Not too crowded or anything. Whenever we get together as a family, it's a circus." Laughing a little, she adds, "And like a circus, it's a blast."

Glory nodded. "Like when we go down to Mexico to see Mama's family. There's a lot of them and they're so much fun. Do you get to go dancing, too? And make molletes? Or, you know, whatever, I think molletes are my tia abuela's speciality but..."

"Sometimes there's dancing," she says with a laugh "And there's definitely cooking. My big brother? Loves to cook. He's really into it and he makes food fro everyone."

Her hands spread out before her. "Ike, this much food. It's crazy but he loves doing it, so I'm not gonna complain."

"Everyone cooks in my family," Glory said. "Even Mama. So when we go down to Mexico we all make food and there's so much and we have leftovers for weeks. I love it. My tia abuela not so much, but she has like six big refrigerators so it doesn't matter." She rubbed her thumb over the kitten's head. "How old is your big brother? Is he a lot bigger than you?"

"A lot of us are doing other things while he cooks. Games and talking to each other and stuff like that. We don't get together a lot, so when we do, everyone's excited to do everything."

It takes her a moment to answer the question, having to think of how to word her response. "Well, he's a lot older than me, like a lot a lot. He was already all grown up by the time I came around." Exact age details are carefully talked around as saying 'He's over a century older than I am, and by the way, I'm about sixty years old, just for reference' seems like a bad way to go.

"Oh, okay," Glory said. "So like Benjy and Emma. Except he was twelve, not all grown up. And he sucks at Loteria 'cause he doesn't listen."

"My brother is very good at listening. He listens to all of us and is hardly ever mean." She's smiling fondly now and the kitten is purring like a motor. "He's great, definitely one of my favorite siblings."
