RP: Is this Heaven?

There is a reception area, and at first glance, it looks to be like most reception areas: there is a front desk, a hallway that leads away, boasting a row of doors appearing to go on forever; there are two other doors immediately visible, one bearing the words Conference Room and the other Committee Chair, both etched in fine glass. All of the décor is elegant, if cold: everything is done up in blues and whites, and the chairs and couches provided look like they were chosen more for their appearance over their actual functionality.

If not for the sense of other in the room, it might seem like an ordinary office building.

It isn’t.

Welcome to heaven! Feel free to explore. A very freaked out Gabriel will probably greet you at some point.

"Hello," she said, and managed a little smile. He was still a little intimidating, but less so now. "Do you happen to know where this is?"

Kevin took a moment to try to read her expression before answering. She acted real. If nothing else, he didn't think something unreal would try to look... hesitant? Afraid? Beneath the friendly smile.

He realized he looked like he was grimacing, and that probably didn't help; he forced his face back into a more socially-acceptable shape.

"No. I don't remember how I got here. Do you?"

Well, he seemed to be trying. Joanna's smile became a little more genuine. "No-- that is to say, I don't remember how exactly. I was looking for my husband, but our living room seems to have become--" She gestured to the room. "This."

He crossed his arms pensively and looked around again, wondering if he'd missed anything else. Nothing huge popped out; maybe more people than last he looked, but then, maybe not. Some things were coming back to him, at least.

"I remember getting up early to pack for a flight. Might've fallen back asleep, but... don't think this is a dream."

He shrugged and decided to make the best of it. "Kevin. You?"

"Joanna," she said. "Joanna Marhenke. For what it's worth, I don't think this is a dream either. I'd just gotten home from work and I've never felt less dreamy."

He nodded.

"My first instinct, poke around, see what happens. See if things react the same as... normal. Real world. Whatever word fits." He looked down the hallway at the many doors, then toward the reception area. "People seem calm, at least..."

That made him think: were the other people here used to the supernatural? Was she normal? That might be good to know. The weird sense-of-something was overwhelming, but he might still be able to look over. Unconsciously, he grimaced again as he tried to attune his senses to both sides.

"Does it feel weird in here to you?"

Joanna frowned at the question, and looked around the area. "You know, now that you mention it, it does feel a little off. Do you have any idea what that might be?"

Apart from the essential strangeness of being somewhere you hadn't expected.

It didn't feel strange like the last place had, for that matter. It felt... well, peaceful, but very distinctly not where she'd been expecting.

"Not exactly... Feels like there's something "here". Other than the people."

He shrugged again, scratching his neck awkwardly, and decided it couldn't hurt to be specific. "Would have expected something to try to eat us by now, honestly."

[personal profile] bookblather 2014-08-24 06:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"To..." Joanna stopped, staring at him. "Really? You... things try to eat you on a daily basis?"

[personal profile] greenling 2014-08-24 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah crap.

Kevin rolled his shoulders back, trying to look nonchalant. "Huh? Nah... Just, you know, weird stuff happens, people disappear, doesn't usually mean good things, right?"

It definitely wasn't a daily basis, anyway. More like a triweekly basis. Twice a month at most. And some of those were just gators.

He grinned and gestured to the hallway. "How do you feel about trying a door?"

[personal profile] bookblather 2014-08-24 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not usually, that's true," Joanna said, and thought but did not add 'but I don't usually think that means things will be eating me.' "Still, it does make me think trying a door might be ill-advised."

[personal profile] greenling 2014-08-25 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
...That did seem to make sense. Kevin hesitated, then nodded. He normally wasn't the sort of person to stand around or socialize, but... maybe this wasn't the normal kind of weird thing. Inasmuch as there was such a thing. Maybe it would just go away.

"Maybe. Not much here other than doors and people, though. What would you do?"

On the other hand, maybe it was trying to eat him via apathy. He didn't feel very apathetic, though, just "not in danger".

It was very confusing.

"Hmm. Find someone who looks like they know what's going on and ask them, usually," Joanna said. "Nine times out of ten, they either know or know who to ask."
