RP Time? You betcha!

"Lucien? What did I tell you about running off on your own?"

Somewhat unsurprisingly, his son didn't answer him with more than a grin. And a splash, once Claude had drawn closer.

Leave it to any child of his to throw off his nice new boots just to stick his feet in the first likely looking stream that came along.

It wasn't even as if they'd gone that far out of town, but away from the roads, from the other sorcer-sorts and Aethies, even the breeze felt calmer, though it had hardly caught to much all the while they'd been walking. Claude being glad they had any at all, as hot as it had been the past few days.

The storm the night before had left lacy scatters of twigs and leaves and knocked down spider webs. Clean and still damp, the leaves overhead and tangled in the grass, they looked pieces of stained glass. And the trees, when they nodded, they sounded clear as harp strings with nothing else to cut the sound.

Out of farmland use and the whiles of any humans at all, the stream had been left so clear, so delicious looking. Just begging for some little blond imp of a boy to come along and kick his heels in it.

Well, one already had. Claude didn't bother with another sigh. He pulled his shoes off and laid them in the stones at his side, stretching lazy as he reached his own toes towards the glittering surface.

And promptly jerked back with a yelp. "Child of mine? That's /cold/."

"I know," said Lucien. "I think it feels nice."

"Maybe if you're part bear. I've always halfway figured, you know."

They had some teasing hums between them and Claude crossed his legs, feet now on the warm pebbles along the bank where they damnwell belonged.

"I think I got that from your side of the family," his son suggested after a while. "Anyway, why do you think it's like that? I don't hear anybody around."

"That wasn't tagging along?"

"Well..." The boy knitted his fingers in his hair, tugging himself a wingtip curl along his temple. "I think I'd only notice Nene if she was /gone/."

"And as for our new friends?"

"They couldn't have gone far. They know we have candy." To which, he nodded. Ever so sure of himself.

Ah, children. Children had gotten him this far with their self-assured beings. And children had found him what was really a rather strange clearing on closer inspection. The stream wore deeper through some places in the grass than others, showing shifts of rock, glints of moss and tree roots sneaking by. It divided the clearing just about cleanly in half.

Besides, on the edge of the forest easing back into being, a great, old ash stood.

Covered in tiny flowers. Pink and violet and hints of white. All of them, growing in streaks as if the bark had long ago turned to soil, though the tree seemed healthy and strong otherwise.

Besides.

"Papa," said Lucian, voice hushed. "There aren't any birds here, are there?"

"No," Claude answered after a moment. "It's just you and I and /a bunch of stinkers who ran off from us/."

"Oh, so that doesn't include me?"

"Child of mine."

They had a few more hums, there in the quiet of the clearing.

There, before something very strange and very faint began to creep along Claude's Aether lines.

It felt like being tickled almost. Anyway, it made him smile. Lucien too.

And next, there his son darted off again, racing over the grass and into the middle of the clearing, where he stood staring into the sky and whistling. Expecting a giant Gust to come sailing down in the form of a giant bird? It might just be that.

Welcome!

Note that anything your characters do in the clearing may result in posts back of things happening around them, even if these aren't exactly invited. Something's lurking around here, and it wants a snack!

Feel free to bring your own fairies, ghosts, mages and seriously confused regular people.

((this is Urban Fantasy AU Summer, so she has true sight-- basically she can see the reality of things, and illusion won't even register. For whatever that's worth.))

There were people here.

Summer ducked her head and moved away from them. She didn't like people she didn't know-- none of them were nice to her and some of them hurt her eyes and anyway she much preferred being with Lars. He wasn't anything other than he pretended to be. Not that Lars was here. She was all by herself. She'd been in the park waiting for Ivy and Gina to come back from their walk, and now...

Oh, no. She stopped, put a hand to her mouth. They'd come back and she wouldn't be there. They'd think she'd run away.

She backed up quickly, and collided with something.

Well. This was... not where she was expecting to be.

Hesitantly, Joanna stepped out across the grass. She was meant to be in her apartment. Thank goodness she'd been out and had her hijab, at least-- if she'd arrived here all uncovered she didn't know what she would do. Besides panic.

At least she was not panicking. There was that.

He had decided to go for a walk instead of riding and found himself walking next to the stream that would eventually become the river that flowed through the country that he ruled. However, as he continued down the stream, Kostya frowned as he noticed that the landscape had changed somehow.

His feet eventually led him to a clearing and he noticed a man standing by the river watching over a young child playing in the stream. He was tempted to ask one of them where he was, but he was very hesitant to trust any strangers as he was now sure that he was no longer in Vaelan as he could no longer feel the presence of it's resident land-spirit.

Oh. Oh.

Setsuko had been swimming out of the lagoon, near a beach where many land-human trinkets washed up. There was a cave where she kept the ones she liked; after all, if she swam back with them to the palace, Yuyan or one of the other servants might get suspicious and tell Mother.

When I am queen, she had promised herself, we will be able to go to and from the surface as we please.

But this was no beach, and the water here was shallow and cold, so cold. Instead of sand fluffy green seaweed (landweed?) grew all around, and further off she saw what looked like brown coral with odd green growth. One large one even had pink and violet flowers all over its trunk.

And oh, there were land-humans everywhere, but unlike the few friends she had made, she had no idea if they were friendly or not.

Setsuko concealed her tail in the stream, and waited.

(OOC: Mermaid Setsuko is pretty much like original Setsuko, but with a lilac blue tail, sharp teeth, and fins at her elbows. She's wearing a short strapless flowing tunic that ends at her hips. She can probably come up on land, although she'll need to drink or otherwise stay hydrated.)

It was supposed to be her day off.

Well, when had she ever taken a real break, anyway?

She'd truly meant to go to the park and relax; it reminded her of when she was a kid running around and discovering what she could do--not that what she could do at twelve was the same as what she could do now.

So at first she'd thought the smell was her imagination, nostalgia taking over. Then she remembered she'd only been able to smell magic since she was eighteen. That wasn't nostalgia. There was something strange here.

She heaved a large sigh, patted her pocket to make sure she had her athame and boline--she didn't have her whole kit, but she wasn't about to go anywhere without some tools, even if she was supposed to be relaxing--and started to follow the smell, pace measured and all senses on alert for anything strange. Anything else strange.

"Oh," Yan said blandly. "This again." As if being whisked off into other worlds was an everyday occurrence for her and not at all unsettling. (Then again, to Conall, Yan found very few things to be unsettling.)

He tightened his fingers around her hand. "Do you know where we are?" he asked.

"No," Yan replied, still unconcerned. "But don't worry, this time we're together, and I won't let anything bad happen to you."

Well, there was that, at least.

In all honesty, stepping into a clearing in the woods when he was expecting a cheap motel's parking lot was far from the strangest experience he'd ever had. Or even a unique one, exactly--though usually when he ended up suddenly in a place he wasn't supposed to, he didn't remember where he was supposed to be. He retained full possession of all of his memories this time, strangely enough. Not that that really made this any better.

It was a nice enough clearing, at least. Nicer than most, even--the stream was clean and clear, with a small child playing in it. And yet...

Perhaps because it was such a strange thing to happen--even for him--he couldn't help but feel there was something not entirely natural about this clearing.

"Confused" was not, at this point, an adequate description of what she was.

Joanna pulled the folds of her hijab away just a bit, to give whatever it was a way out. It wasn't an insect, that much was certain, and she couldn't think of anything that might feel that way-- well, a bat, perhaps, but she seriously doubted that a bat would snuggle. Or get into her hijab.

"Hello?" she whispered, and immediately felt stupid for doing so.

Oh now. This was interesting.

Jack paused barely a moment before he curled himself into human-shape again, legs and arms and...oh yes, fingers, those were important. And clothes. He was sure his human shape was extremely attractive but probably he would shock someone.

A step, two. Something was wrong-- oh, yes, his feet were meant to be touching the ground. Well, never mind that. He could float if he wanted to. He looked around the clearing, interested, then headed for the only man not currently talking to someone. "Is this a trap?"

The first thing Taz noticed was that, after kicking her door open behind her, her foot didn't land on wood.

She pulled back from Dallu to take a look around--a clearing, a lot of confused-looking people hanging around, a little stream. Not her cabin.

"Well. This is a mite disappointin'," she said, reluctantly pulling her shirt back over her shoulders.

"That's a word for it," Dallu said, with a faint sigh.

"Don't suppose you've any idea what happened?" she asked.

He shook his head. "Other than disappointment."

She matched his wry smile with one of his own. "Well, one way to find out. Shall we explore?"

He grinned and took her hand.

Isshiri

[personal profile] shadowsong26 2013-05-16 07:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Isshiri was more excited than anything else when playing-hide-and-seek with Kira and climbing into a trunk at the foot of Riluke's bed somehow dropped him into a shiny new place, with a whole river in it. Fast as he could--he wasn't quite steady yet, on the pretend leg--he made his way over to it and the ground was squishy and it was the amazingest thing ever.

Oh, there were other people. That could be fun, too.

He flinched, and rested a hand against his neck. "I suppose that depends on how you define 'best' in terms of traps," he said softly.

Kostya frowned deeply. While he could not sense Vale, he could feel like something else was there. Knowing his luck, it was probably laughing at him.

"Dammit," muttered Kostya under his breath, pretty sure that something was watching him and he looked about him.

((Again, this is Urban Fantasy Summer, so she has true sight-- she will see people as they are, and illusion won't affect her. IDK if this affects anything.))

Summer wanted to go home.

It wasn't that this place was any more strange than she was used to, but what she was used to was having Mama and Papa and Ivy and Aaron and Lars with her, and Gina sometimes too now, and all of her other friends. This was strange encountered all on her own, with people she didn't know and a place that made her stomach hurt and smoke-beings and a mermaid and she wanted to go home, now.

Blindly, she turned away from the large gathering, bumped physically into a large man, sat down in surprise, and burst into tears.
