TV Tropes: Surely Someday; Character: Douglas Andrews

The lovely website tvtropes is often a time suck. And by that I mean you can spend hours on it and not even noticed that you've wasted half your day. There is also a lovely thing on Tumblr, where you find tropes to describe your favorite fictional characters and make a picture/gif set with them. I thought I'd try it with my stories.

First up: Douglas Andrews from Surely Someday. Come get to know (and see!) him.

Who is Douglas Andrews?

Amusingly enough, I'm actually on TV Tropes right now, wondering what tropes apply to my characters.

Do you have any suggestions on finding what tropes fit your characters without being overwhelmed by the website (which seems to be my problem)?

Hah! I was actually just thinking about TV Tropes and my stories. I'll come back with a couple of my characters, but for now I wanted to say that Douglas Andrews is unfairly hot and I suddenly understand why Henry hit on him to begin with.

When I have time, I'm totally going to do this. It's a fantastic idea.

I've done this in my head more than a few times. No PBs=no gifsets, though. Sadness...

I've usually got the site up in a tab most times. It seems to help with not getting lost because it's always there anyway so no big deal. I've been a bit embarrassed to admit this, but I really do find it a great resource for character and plot development. Previously I'd only been exposed to the idea of taking stories apart in a boring class environment - TV Tropes showed me it could be fun rather than pretentious.
