Impromptu Spring Challenge
Because why not? Cuten up your verse by completing the following special color.
Bubblegum Pink
[Tag as "color: custom palette" when posting.]
1. Favorite Toy
2. Memory Box
3. Baby Teeth
4. Bubble Soap
5. Rubber Duck
6. "Just Five More Minutes"
7. Playground
8. Coloring
9. Blankie
10. Time Out
11. Show and Tell
12. "But, why?"
13. "S/he started it!"
14. Time for a Treat
15. Wonderment
With the special considerations: the main character of every short must be ten or under. So, you're going to have to flash back or let the kids hog the spotlight.
Sharing is encouraged! Have the little version of your MC hang out with the MC of someone else's 'verse and be as adorable as possible. Make sure to ask first.
This challenge is due on April 25th. You may have Bubblegum Pink as a sixth color (if you're already doing a special sixth color, you will need to complete that or do Bubblegum Pink as a saturation). If you complete the challenge by the appointed date, you will receive ten novelty beads from SWL's personal stash of quips and pictures, plus a bonus for every crossover.
~*~
Not sure what to write?
We're also having an impromptu spring RP for ten and under characters.
Setting: a bright, sunny playground with a wood castle (three towers, a bridge, a hidey cubby in the bottom of one of the towers), lots of good trees for climbing, a shady picnic table, plus all the juice, cookies and sammiches anyone could ever want in the cooler. The playground has meadow grass instead of a rubberized play surface and there's a plastic chest of bubble soap, hula hoops, balls, squirt guns, butterfly nets, those sorts of goodies around. Probably a hose too if anyone's inclined to related naughtiness.
No hitting. Posting starts right now and runs at least through Monday. Three novelty beads from SWL's stash to be issued per character brought along for the fun.
~*~
ETA: The only person I don't have available as a child is Tian. Making icons now. Expecting to be moseying around with pokes soon! (And you don't have to have icons. I just like them.)

Would you like to start, or should I?
(And the more the merrier says this bad influence.)

If you could start? I'm leaning toward Celia, although I might add baby incarnations later.

And there's one for Nicholas/Zephyr too.

"This isn't right," Ahava said grumpily, and stabbed the straw into her juicebox. "This is the wrong playground."
Duncan shrugged and sipped on his. "It's a better playground than ours," he said, phlegmatically. Four years of association with Ahava had taught him to take things in stride. "Anyway, our moms aren't going to be mad at us. It's not our fault."
"I don't care about that," Ahava said, because of course she didn't, she never did. "It's the wrong playground and I refuse to like it." She crossed her arms defiantly, and then quickly uncrossed them to keep from spilling her juicebox.
no subject
Oh, more people to play with! There was a boy and a girl--Celia didn't normally play with boys, but if he was with the girl, that was probably okay. They had the good kind of juice boxes, too, where the juice was yummy and didn't taste like fruit that was about to go bad.
"Hi!" she called, waving.
no subject
"What, am I not good enough for you?"
"Shut up," Ahava said, genially, and beamed at the other girl. "Hi! I'm Ahava. Wanna juice box?"
no subject
"Do you like bubbles? There's some in that box over there, and they're really good. Watch." She dipped her wand in the plastic bottle and blew, surrounding everyone in bubbles so big she almost expected Glinda the Good Witch to come out of one.
no subject
"Wow," Ahava said. "Wow, those are amazing! You are so good at those, can you teach me?"
Duncan rolled his eyes at her, this time fondly, and asked, "What flavor juice box do you want, Celia?"
no subject
She considered the boy's question for a second, but not too long. "I'll have grape," she said. "By the way, what's your name?"

Edit: Read it wrong >< For the characters I have: Adam and Kia (8), necromancer Albert (8), Seth (7), Claire (6), and Chris (9) You can use any of them I don't mind. ^^
I'm hoping to post more here. Hope this challenge helps.

(I've been informed Alexandra has one of her dolls with her.)

This was the best playground ever. Much better than the ones Uncle Jack took her to. Glory bounced on her toes and scanned the area happily. There were squirt guns! And people her own age, who probably wouldn't destroy her or be destroyed by her the way her cousins did. It was so hard being in the middle sometimes.
Best playground ever.

Besides, if it turned out she was stuck here forever with this other children, she should take very chance to be nice to as many as possible. That way, when they decided who would be in charge, more of them would vote for her.
Alexandra smiled, wishing only that there could be more of her. And perhaps eternally working bathrooms for this end of the world with the ten and under set.
But, if she was going to pick one, she was going to pick a happy one, damnit.
Say. Oh! That one right there. "You there," she said. Cheerful, but in no way lacking authority about the tone. "You're planning something. I learned. I can tell. Need help?"

And enjoyed shooting others. That was always a nice touch.
So, it was only a brief moment of hesitation before Alexandra took that hand in both of her own, giving it a good bob. "It's very nice to meet you, Glory. I am Alexandra Duclos. And did you say squirt guns?"
She grinned, just a flicker of her teeth showing.

True, there was a time when she would have gone on, made it clear. Well, ou can call me that then. It's pretty! But, names had to be guarded.
Besides, the other matters were really quite lovely indeed, or so she discovered upon approaching the chest, Glory at her side.
"And we have enough for an army!"
The good pump action kind with detachable reservoirs no less.

Duclos, 7
Aetheon/Henri, 8ish
Roa, 6-8
And I'm not the least possessive of any of my cast, so feel free to help yourself! Just give me a heads up.
Alexandra Duclos, 8. Open thread. Feel free to comment in.
After her morning lecture, Alexandra at least started her review writeup. She didn't exactly find simple machines and their applications stimulating material, though. Why had the tutor brought such a lacy, complicated pulley settup if he had no intention of letting her play with it? Wouldn't that be more educational than watching him do it?
She imagined she would have very little occasion to use a pulley. Which only made it worse in a way. When was she ever going to meet one she could touch ever again?
If she laid those facts out in her review paper, would that get her one /faster/? Or, should she be nice about the paper, then try Aetheon when he talked to her about it?
He would bring her children off the street to play with if she asked nicely and Tian came along to watch them and of course, the parents of those children didn't object to Tian. Alexandra tended to think of her as a tree. She provided shade and climbing surfaces and something at least similar to the peaceful calm of trees.
Although it made Alexandra go thump inside instead of whoosh.
Finally, why did Alexandra need pulleys /if she had Tian/?
Distracted to the point of pouting at herself, she turned off her screen, went to her doll cabinet and resolved to redress the blue-eyed beauty with the pale lips and amber mohair wig. She'd been waiting her dark violet evening sheath for a very long time, and that was not appropriate for spring. Not at all. Mother would have chided her for leaving her doll so poorly clothed verses the season.
The thought gave her some pause as she leafed through the hanger bags of chiffon and silk, deep in the leather trunk where she kept her doll garments.
Alright. Mother was gone. She would just have to remember what Mother taught her and use it so it wouldn't fade away.
Perhaps she could do an extra writeup about Mother? She knew Aetheon would smile about that. Why, he would, she couldn't quite say. But he would.
Alexandra dressed her doll in a long, swooping sky blue gown that reminded her of wings. There was a set of silver and moonstone jewelry that had come with this set, but she chose to use the scrimshaw paure instead and filled the mohair wig with the dip-dyed silk violets Mother had so liked to play with. And finally, a set of hand-cast blue goldestone shoes.
Content with what she had done and all of the unused toys put away, Alexandra resolved to show off her creation. To someone, at least. Tian? Tian would be in the manor if she was home.
But, when Alexandra tried to walk the halls there, tried to find her.
Instead she found herself in a playground.
And if that didn't top the fish people from last time! True, she felt a little exposed, realizing she would have no Tian for shelter, or for climbing. But there were tree-trees here.
Alexandra held her doll to her hip and scurried up to the fork in the trunk of the very largest one.
(OOC: Alexandra is wearing a light dress with an embroidered bodice, white tights with little hearts on them and beige flats with crystal clip on toe decorations clearly meant for an adult attending a party.)
Roa/Kareha, 8. Open thread. Feel free to comment in.
Kareha had been playing in the Old Ship. She was sure of it. More than that, she hadn't gone to any unfamiliar place inside of it. The Old Ship only went so far and it had been scoured by generations of children before hers. It had ends, boundaries, stops. It was a known thing.
But now, she found herself in an field she did not know, surrounded by strange plants and stranger children- some of them much lighter than Kareha, but others much darker. One she swore to be a faint shade of green. A curious hut with a bridge stood in the center took over much of the field. And everyone, just everyone was shouting that happy way like when the waves were just right to play in or someone caught a bird.
Kareha could hear birds.
Also strange.
It was all so very, very /strange/.
It made her smile so hard.
She flung herself into the nearest patch of bubbly, white flowers and resolved to find out what sort of bugs lived there.
(OOC: Roa is wearing a knee-length wrap skirt, several sting ray leather thong necklaces with antique metal and bone beads on them and no top.)
Re: Roa/Kareha, 8. Open thread. Feel free to comment in.
But there was a big castle, so much nicer than even the new structure they had at school. She stopped at the big plastic box, taking out a bottle of bubbles, and walked around in search of a nice fluffy spot to blow them.
(OOC: Celia is wearing a pink ruffly tunic, leggings, and glittery flats. She's got a beaded bracelet on one wrist, and is wearing an Alice-style headband.)
Re: Roa/Kareha, 8. Open thread. Feel free to comment in.
But then. One of Celia's bubbles happened to light on the specimen she had crossed her eyes about examining. It rested there an instant, opalescent oil slick skating all around with it's own shimmer. Until one little spot went dim and Kareha wrinkled up her nose where the castoff had fallen.
So, someone must be doing wash then? Otherwise, where would the bubbles have come from? So big and juicy and…
When she saw Celia with the bubble soap?
She /gaped/. Why would… why would anyone do that with /soap/?
Absolutely delightful as /it/ happened to be, but still.
Re: Roa/Kareha, 8. Open thread. Feel free to comment in.
Celia could stay here forever, looking at all these rainbow bubbles floating in the sunshine.
She saw something move out of the corner of her eye, and when she turned to look, there was another girl, about her age, wearing a bunch of necklaces with teeth on them and nothing else. Is she cold? Celia thought. But no, she seemed fine, if somewhat surprised at the bubbles Celia was blowing.
So Celia dipped her wand in the bottle again and blew them toward the girl, grinning.
Re: Roa/Kareha, 8. Open thread. Feel free to comment in.
And the other girl over there, she smiled so warm. And he made more! She made the whole soft patch of flowers glisten with those delicious bubbles.
Kareha inched closer, watching one small, prismatic specimen flit past her shoulder. Another that close, and she reached out to catch it.
The bubble popped on her fingers. But, she was not deterred. Bubbles liked wet things better. So, she licked the back of her hand and held that out to catch the next one.
It sank down between her knuckles, shifting and wheeling on the surface for a long time before it winked away.
Once it was gone, she returned that smile across the soft leaves.
(OOC: and, now that I'm not longer brain-eaten... I think.)
Re: Roa/Kareha, 8. Open thread. Feel free to comment in.
Wow.
Celia had never seen a bubble stay that long before. Was it magic?
She scooted over to the girl, bubble solution in hand.
"You have got to show me how you do that."
Zephyr/Nicholas, 7. Open thread. Feel free to comment in.
This happened sometimes after he had one of his headaches. The next day? Nicholas still couldn't eat, even if he got hungry. And there was still something twingy in his temple. Like if he turned too hard, everything went blurry for an instant.
It was like being half asleep. Except he wasn't. And the Mom yelled at him for not finishing his breakfast.
Really, he /had/ taken care of the goats, but running the pump and then walking back to them- usually, he enjoyed their milk-hay-dirt smell. Today, watching the water pour, standing there thinking about it.
He didn't want to smell anything. And he didn't want to do any weeding. The herb beds were sunny and hot this time of day. They had so many scents and...
In the afternoon came lessons.
Nicholas just wanted to sleep. At least lie down. Just for five minutes. Just...
He'd go hide in the orchard. He really shouldn't. /That/ was a spanking and a lecture. But, by the time he'd thought of it?
He had already begun to wander that way and he couldn't seem to stop himself from falling into the shade.
Except when he landed, he found himself in a patch of sun-warm sand instead of any cozy tree roots.
Nicholas sat up with a start, hands dragging over his clothes.
(OOC: Nicholas is wearing a sleeveless tunic with an indigo sash and short trousers, all in scratchy homespun. He quite possibly smells of goat. This is a long time before he had any wires done, so touching him doesn't necessarily equal him being able to read the other person's conscious thoughts. Feel free to stipulate a how well he will be able to read any other children you may bring over to play.)

Marya, 8 (Kostya's little sister)
Alona, 9 (from a universe I haven't posted yet - she's in the icon)
I'm also willing to throw in a ten year Kostya since he appears at that age in one part of the saturation I'm working on.

Can we do both a Saturation and a list version of Bubblegum Pink? If so, how many prompts is the Saturation worth?
(... Not that I'm plotting or anything, nosiree...)

It equals more fic so of course it is OK ^^.
