NaNoWriMo

So who else in RF is doing NaNo?

One of the things I've had the most success with in the past is breaking my story up into 30 chapters so I know exactly what I'm writing on any given day. This year, when it came time to move from index cards and random notes to an actual chapter outline, it occurred to me that there are 30-prompt color lists out there.

I'm currently waffling between Battleship Grey and Halloween Orange. Anybody have an opinion?

(It also occurred to me to wonder if the Challenge Color for November is going to be a 30-prompt color, but that doesn't seem to get posted far enough in advance for my needs anyway.)

I'm doing NaNo but not for RF; I have a fanfic lined up.

I love the color-a-day idea, though - that's awesome!

Spider-Man, loosely... branching off the first two films of the Tobey Maguire movieverse, for setting. I have a Venom origin AU that I've been percolating for a few years (read: uh, since 2006-ish), and it's finally hitting a point where NaNo-ing at it seems like the right thing to do.

(Eddie Brock!Venom in the early-'90s comics hits every one of my narrative kinks, but also embodies a lot of the most problematic parts of the vigilante ethos; I really want to play with the tension there, see what happens when I try to write him as the protagonist of his own story while not smoothing over the problematic stuff. At the very least, it should be interesting. XD)

I'm afraid not; the way I do NaNo, it's an exercise in "jump into a barely-planned story concept and then write madly in a nonlinear fashion until everything coheres". Leaving the whole mess unposted so I can just mentally note "that means X subplot is all wrong but I'll change it later" is an important part of it for me. ;P

(I may well clean it up and post it afterwards, though. The last NaNo I finished was the first draft of Mort/James, after all. - I know I haven't been posting on Mort/James much, but I'm hoping to get back to it after New Year's, if things go well.)

Thanks for asking, though! It's always neat to know someone's interested. :-)

For what it's worth, I worked to prompts last year and it all went fine. I don't think it's cheating, just using a method that works for you.

I'm doing it. I'm going to TRY it at least. XD

I'm probably not going to do an actual NaNo project, but I'm going to try and hit the word count (~1670 words/day) on the various writing projects I already have. Maybe starting something new as well, but I don't think I can manage the kind of hyperfocus on a completely new story NaNo would require.

I'm doing it! I have a story that I tried to start last year and failed, so I will write it this year.

Ooh, cool idea!

I'm doing Nano (always), in one of my RF worlds... but it's only an RF world because I wrote one backstory fic for it, and have been meaning to write more XD

During November? Highly unlikely--I'll be doing Nano and twice-weekly updates for my web serial. But hopefully I'll have time to do another story or two for RF before the end of the month.

I'm gonna do it! I'm deciding between something original and a fanfic. I may go between them and see which one takes off. I hope I'll be able to keep up this time.

There will be challenges in November, but there won't be a challenge color like there was with Harvest Gold. So it wouldn't affect things either way.

Yes, I will be! I'm doing the story of one of my major AUs from my series. It's basically going to be about the end of the world, Sheffield, and epic man/car love.

I am sort of doing NaNo? Instead of trying to hit 50k this year, though (been there, done that--seven times), I'm attempting to finish the first draft of a novel I've already started. Regardless if it has 50k words to go or not (my outlines are always very vague).

So I'll probably continue posting in RF over November. Maybe in the same world as the novel, which will be new.
