Writers' Salon!

All right, guys, let's get this started.

This is a post for members to post their burning questions to each other. They can be simple, like "when is Character X's birthday," or not so simple "how would you define the relationship between Character X and Character Y?" If there's a story you want that author to talk about, throw in the title (and some points you'd like covered!) and if said author's willing, they can write their answer in a separate post, since I have no idea what the comment word limits are.

Here's how it'll work: an author who's up for answering questions/writing commentaries about stories will leave their name in a comment. Readers who want to ask questions or request stories reply to that comment, and hopefully we'll have some good conversations going!

If you guys request stories, it may be best if you limit them to [community profile] rainbowfic for the time being, unless the story you've got archived outside the comm is in a public entry.

EDIT: If it's not already obvious, you can ask authors more than one question in however many comments you like. The point is to have a discussion, and it wouldn't be very lively if it stopped at one question per author! Just give the author a chance to finish answering your previous questions, of course.

I haven't posted much here, but I'm open for questions!

Do you have any stories you're afraid to write?

Well in my universe I'm afraid to write a few things. Such as I have a couple Haru, a Shadow Demon, and Shen, a Cat Demon, and their backstories frighten me. They both come from abusive homes and have to use their bodies to get money to support their siblings, until they're able to get what they need. I'm afraid that I won't write healing from the abuse right or I'll do something wrong since I normally don't write in that area.

I have few more characters that deals with some heavy topics. Child abuse, drug abuse, and other triggery things that I'm afraid I won't create an accurate picture of the healing process or I'll do something wrong. I'll have to write it sooner or later because when I do introduce them you'll have to know why Haru won't show his eyes or Shen doesn't trust anyone around his little brother Li.

Other than that I don't have much I'm afraid of. Oh well maybe the Mafia AU kicking in my mind. I don't know much and I'll have to look things up to get it right. *nods*

I'm with you; the really scary ones are characters who have really traumatic events in their background or endemic to their life, when you haven't lived with it yourself. Getting it wrong is a big worry for me too (obviously).

*nods* It sucks in a way because I don't want to tell them to be quiet or don't tell me, but writing it is different. My biggest challenge will be Takashi. His backstory has so much heavy stuff in it I might have to do it in parts.

Is there any particular source of inspiration you turn to when you're stuck on a story? Or, do you have a particular method for getting unstuck?

My inspiration to turn to when I'm stuck on a story is first quotes that help me and assure me that me being a writer is fine. After I go and read a book or one of my favorite fics (original and fanfiction), but if I'm particularly stuck on something I'll go watch my favorite movie or anime. That really helps me. ^^

One method I have for getting unstuck is writing something I want. Whether it be putting couples together or just something silly it normally helps me when I'm in the mood to just close the document and leave it alone for good.
