"I'll have to ask around," Ivy said, thoughtfully. "I know a bunch of local vets. They should have some recommendations for me. Seriously, though, who the hell thinks leaving all the kitten needles off an order is even remotely okay?"

Dan shakes his head. "That's ridiculous," he says.

"No kidding." She shook her own head. "I mean, for God's sake, how I am supposed to give the kittens their shots?" Ivy swallowed the last of her beer, then set the glass down and folded her arms. "What's the weirdest thing you've ever had somebody leave off an order?"

Dan thinks for a moment. "One time, I was short a set of glasses," he says, "which wouldn't be as weird if they hadn't tried to make up for it by sending a set of plastic novelty cups instead."

Ivy snorted. "Plastic novelty cups? Really? In a place like this? The hell kind of bar did they think you ran?"

"I honestly couldn't tell you," Dan says, shaking his head. "The things people will do sometimes...it can be ridiculous."

"Anything they think they can get away with," Ivy said, wryly. "And you should know that I say this as someone who will do anything she thinks she can get away with that will be fun. My wife has toned it down a bit, though."

He smiles. "So you'd know?" he asks.

"Completely," Ivy said, nodding, wearing her best solemn expression. "I am of their kind. And the novelty glasses is ridiculous, you totally can't get away with that shit."

Dan grins. "You would think they'd know that."

That's when Cindy brings out Ivy's steak and fries. Dan sets them down in front of her.

"Thanks," Ivy told them both, with a smile, and began cutting into her steak. "Not enough practice at trying to get away with stuff? I've been doing it since I was a teeny-tiny hellion." She put the piece into her mouth, her eyes widening a little more as she chewed. "Damn," she said, after she swallowed. "Can this place get anything wrong?"

"Probably, but we try not to," Dan says, amused.
