Things are shifting. Points in space and time are connecting in ways they’ve never connected before. Bridges are materializing where there once was nothing.

Alexa laughed. "The parents thing is what's convincing me of interdimensional portal. I considered hallucination, but I don't know why I'd hallucinate a sort-of half-brother whose parents include my dad being gay. That's just strange when my dad is straight. So I'm ruling out hallucination."

She glanced over at their collective parents, and, since she was very much her mother's child, let an evil smile steal over her face. "Jon, how do you feel about freaking out our parents?"

"...you are so Eileen's daughter," Jon said, and grinned. "I'm definitely in."

Alexa led him over to the set of parents and waited for a pause in their conversation before smiling brightly. "I think I should introduce myself to my mom and dad." She looked at Sam. "And to Sam, of course."

"And I should probably introduce myself to my dads," Jon added, smirking. "And Eileen."

[eileen_smith]

Eileen halted and looked between the two newcomers. One was ten-or-so years younger and actually did look like her, and the other looked sort of vaguely like Torey...

She downed her bourbon, set down the glass and said, "Hi, Alexa, it's nice to meet you."

Sam looked back and forth between Alexa and Eileen, frowning discerningly. There was definitely a resemblance. And the other kid...he did remind him a little of Torey.

"You," he said, pointing at Alexa, "are supposed to be five."

He also downed the rest of his drink.

"So you're the one we can't work out, apparently," Torey said thoughtfully. He felt much less of a need to drink, but that was because he'd already had a fair amount in order to cope with Eileen and Sam actually being in a romantic relationship.

He looked at Sam. "She's supposed to be four in my universe," and then he paused. Dads and Eileen...

"...there's a universe where it's just me and Sam?" Torey asked the kid.

"I think I just won the multiverse-existence Olympics," Alexa said to Jon, not quite smugly, but if it was, then that was because she was a big sister. His, in a way. "So I'm twenty-eight, five, and four, huh?"

[sarcasticsra]

"You really did," Jon said to her, impressed. He looked at his dad...or, really, an alternative universe version of his dad. That was weird. Cool, kind of, but still weird. "Yeah. I'm Jon. You have four other kids, too--all girls."

[eileen_smith]

"Interesting," Eileen said, and to Sam and Torey, added, "and I'm glad I'm not with you in that universe, because I am not going through five pregnancies, no matter how sexy you may be."

If their kids could break their brains, she and Sam could get back at them some.

"I can't believe I just met my son from an alternate universe," Sam said, shaking his head as he tried to digest this new information. He smirked a little at Eileen, adding, "Yeah, I don't blame you, there. No matter how much we can't resist you, either, I assume?"

They had to spread the bafflement around, Sam felt. It was only fair.

"It's worth practicing as much as we can," Torey put in with a grin of his own. "I'm ready for the challenge."

Lucky for the kids that he reconsidered saying 'up' in that sentence.

"Okay, ew, ew, and ew," Alexa said, grimacing. "Definitely my parents! Or our parents. Good to know. I am fully aware you have functional sex lives--by the way, excellent motivator for moving out post-college--but I don't have to actually hear about it."

"I'm with you," Jon muttered, grimacing as well and trying to wipe the last minute or so from his memory. "It's just not something I need such blatant confirmation of." He looked at Eileen, "But it's four pregnancies--Brooke and Dee are twins."

[eileen_smith]

"...Alexa, do you have twin siblings?" Eileen asked, giving Sam and Torey a wary look. "Because if this happens, in my universe, two specific men better be very afraid."

[sarcasticsra]

Sam leaned slightly away from her. "Can I hide behind you?" he asked Torey. "Just in case."

[torey_corlioni]

"No," Torey said flatly. "That makes me twice the target."

[alexa_corlioni]

"Alyce probably would have quit," Alexa said thoughtfully. "Three younger brothers, none of whom are twins. Jacob, Peter, and Chris."

[sarcasticsra]

"The other two girls are Allie and Vanessa," Jon added. "Allie's next oldest, then Vanessa, then Dee, and Brooke's the youngest by a minute and a half. Oh, they're also identical." He smirked.

[eileen_smith]

"Please tell me I wasn't your surrogate," Eileen implored him. "For one thing, it would have made it a little difficult to have my own children."

[sarcasticsra]

"You are no help," Sam said to Torey, and then shook his head. "Identical twin girls. God, that's more than a little bit terrifying."

[torey_corlioni]

"Why should I help?" Torey asked. "I'm a potential target, too."

"Sam's wrapped around everybody's finger?" he guessed, asking Jon. "Because Alexa got him when she was a baby, and he wasn't even living with us then."

[alexa_corlioni]

Alexa laughed. "That sounds amazing. Sam, you're like that with your kids that I know. Nice to see that's consistent," she teased, "you being vulnerable to small children's whims."

[sarcasticsra]

"Of course he is," Jon said, and smirked. "Especially Brooke and Dee's, but they cheat. There's two of them, and when they gang up on you, they give you these wide blue eyes and this pleading look, it's impossible to resist." So maybe Jon was just as wrapped around his littlest sisters' fingers. It happened.

Eileen laughed. "Oh, you guys are screwed. Especially when they start dating."
