Why is writing so goddamn hard?

Or, is anyone else having a hard time writing this year? Everything seems to be going to hell in a handbasket so my writing might as well go along, is how I apparently feel.

Even John Scalzi has mentioned on his blog that this year has been hard on his word count. It’s hard to care about fictional problems when the real ones are so present.

There's that "joke" about how dystopic it is to have to regularly call your representatives and tell them you'd rather they didn't vote to kill you. All of our word count is going towards letters to senators.
