Mel slipped out of the tent, planning to watch the stars for a while--he should be sleeping, if only so he could be effective backup for Isshiri in the morning--except...he couldn't.
It wasn't a premonition, or anything gloomy like that, just sort of pondering how in the hell he'd gotten here, from when he'd been a child worshipping his Captain and waiting for his future.
But when he stepped outside, he didn't step into the siege camp, but into some sort of office, done all in blue and white, like ice. He would have guessed he was in the North, somehow, except it wasn't cold.
It was eerie, though, unsettling in a way he couldn't quite define. There was power at work here, and while he couldn't call it evil, it wasn't...it wasn't natural, not by any definition he knew.
