Spring RP: The Hennessy Home

The house sits on a bluff above the sea, with a winding path down to a sandy beach leading away from the yard. It is three stories high, stucco and terracotta, and would look forbiddingly expensive were it not for the worn tire swing hanging from a tree and the flip-flops left strewn around the outdoor pool.

Inside, the house looks much the same--expensive but lived-in. A grand piano, clearly used, dominates one room. Another room has couches and chairs neatly arranged like a museum, with beat-up books and magazines filling its shelves and cupboards. It is light and airy, with huge windows, a well-stocked kitchen, and first-rate entertainment systems.

The first and second floors seem to be generalized living spaces, with the bedrooms on the third floor. The master bedroom is the only exception, and the only one that still seems in use. Multiple other rooms, especially on the third floor, look dusty and unused.

"So, you know this place?" she asked, then nodded at one of the chairs. "May I?" Only polite to ask, in someone else's home, after all--and Lux had been right in reading the human's posture. She did belong here, in some fashion.

"More or less," Jack agreed. "I mean, insofar as anyone is every familiar with this situation. I'm Jack, and you are?" He held out a hand.

"Certainly," Miranda said, and her back straightened almost unconsciously at the formality.

Good God, had Grandmother Hennessy actually rubbed off on her? The thought was terrifying.

"I do," she added, answering the question. "It's my parents' house. I lived here until I was twenty-three."

"Aha," Lux said, settling into the chair. Human, she reminded herself, and did her best to copy the other's posture. "Yes, I suppose you would know if random holes in reality started opening up in your childhood home."

Ivy's burns were all healed, and she was just about to embark on another experiment (this time with proper goggles and gear; despite what Aaron said she was capable of learning), when she remembered that she'd forgotten her gloves, and went back to get them, and wound up somewhere that was, well, not home.

At least it wasn't a hospital this time.

Ooh, and there was another kid her age!

Ivy went over to the window and the kid her age, and pressed up against the window to see what he was looking at. "Whatcha looking at?"

"One would expect," Miranda said, "although of course I suppose it's possible I wouldn't, had I not been walking into my apartment when I arrived here." She cocked an eyebrow at the other-- and now why was her brain refusing to follow that with 'human?' "Your friend will be expecting you?"

Isshiri dragged his attention away from outside and grinned at the girl who'd come over. She was probably his age, and from outside the desert with awesome red hair. "The water," he said. "It's so big."

Lux nodded. "Yes, though I'm a little earlier than planned. Hopefully if time distorts, it'll work in my favor." She shrugged, hiding the brief flare of pain from the wounds where her wings used to be with the ease of long practice. "Was anyone expecting you at home?"

"My condolences," Siebenkas mentioned, albeit still smiling as he did so. He gave Jack's hand a tight squeeze and all of the shake he would have offered someone wearing items less precarious than a towel. "Though, I'm glad to have been introduced to you this time. I go by Siebenkas, myself and I know first-hand you're not the first among /us/ to be left with a towel, so to speak."

"Well, I was naked," Jack admitted. "But this is my parents' house, so I just ran upstairs and... and it occurs to me that if I'd gone up one more flight of stairs I could've actually worn clothes. Wow. Good job, self." He flashed a little, self-deprecating smile. "Siebenkas, huh? Any relation to Zephyr?"

"Thank God, no," Miranda said, with the first real emotion she'd shown in... since at least lunch with Mama, good lord. "For the record, I believe very little time passes wherever you come from."

"Oh," Ivy said, and looked out at the ocean. "Yeah, it kinda is, isn't it? I wonder which ocean that is." It was super blue so it probably wasn't the ocean near New York, but that was okay because Ivy had sorta known she wasn't in New York anyway. "I bet we could go down and wade," she added. "I think there's a path over there."

"Good," Lux said. It gave her a better chance of being able to explain his disappearance to Mariko without having to go into too much detail, and before she could learn of his escape from another source. "And I'm glad you won't be missed. Or at least that you're glad you won't be missed?" she followed, after realizing that some humans might find the first comment to be slightly offensive.

"Ooh!" Isshiri said. "That would be awesome. There's no ocean close to me and it's shiny." New things to explore were always fun. Especially with someone else--especially especially with his sisters, but they weren't here and meeting new people was the next best thing. And the red-haired girl seemed really nice. He smiled at her again. "I'm Isshiri. What's your name?"

"Is-Isshiri," Ivy repeated, stumbling over the sounds. "Cool name! I'm Ivy." She held out a hand.

He took her hand, like Nolani had shown him from how some people outside Glass say hello. "Ivy's a cool name, too," he said, hoping he'd gotten it right.

Miranda arched an eyebrow, and let the silence hang for just a beat too long, before saying, "It is a good thing. I did have a date with my wine though."

And she'd blundered. Damn it. The problem with blending into a human world used to nonhumans--it made it difficult to blend in to one less open. She had no idea how Gabriel managed to do it as well as he did.

Well, at least she was handling this better than Michaela ever could have.

"Good wine makes one of the best dates," Lux agreed.

Ivy grinned, and shook his hand. "Thanks!" she said, brightly. "Let's go down and play in the water!"

"Particularly on a bad day," Miranda said, and sighed, leaning back against the couch again. "Urgh. So of course this happened."

Sam couldn't help the grin on his face as he brushed his hair. He was going to spend the day with Ed. While that wasn't unusual, it would be their first hangout since they became a couple. He couldn't wait to hang out with Ed, play some games, and get some kisses in between. He tried not to bounce in front of the mirror. His sisters would never stop cooing if they caught him. He brushed his hair one more time before he put the brush on the sink and adjusted his shirt. They may have started dating, but it didn't ease his shyness very much.

Sam adjusted his shirt one more time. He nodded when he finally got his shirt the way he wanted. He grabbed his jacket on his way to the door and walked into an unfamiliar room. He frowned as he looked at the chairs and couches. It looked like it belonged to someone with a lot of money or a faerie that liked to play tricks. He hoped it wasn't that. He didn't feel like dealing with a faerie that wanted to have a good laugh.

Sam sighed as he pulled his phone out his pocket and walked over to the nearest sofa.

He hoped it wouldn't take too long.

Isshiri grinned back. "Yeah!" He glanced at the window. "Think it opens, or do you know where the door is?"

"Ummm...." She looked around, and pushed her goggles further up on her forehead. "Oh, maybe over there? I think the front door's that way."

"What kind of bad day was it?" Lux asked. "Professional, romantic, familial, other personal...?" She shook her head. "Sorry if asking is rude, but it seems the sort of thing to discuss anonymously in another dimension."

It seemed a little rude, but then again that was what these bloody things were for. "Professionally. I don't really have a romantic life." Unless you counted being fucked against the bathroom wall of a club somewhere, but that was much too personal. "My family... it doesn't really go poorly."
