Conall was quiet for a while. "You know," he finally said, "I was probably in kindergarten when I lost my dad, and listening is really all you can do. Or at least take her seriously when she's talking to you, I think. Kids see through that 'when you're older' or 'you're too young to understand' crap, you know? But in the end...you probably can't make it one hundred percent better for her, even if you really want to."
