RP Time? You betcha!

"Lucien? What did I tell you about running off on your own?"

Somewhat unsurprisingly, his son didn't answer him with more than a grin. And a splash, once Claude had drawn closer.

Leave it to any child of his to throw off his nice new boots just to stick his feet in the first likely looking stream that came along.

It wasn't even as if they'd gone that far out of town, but away from the roads, from the other sorcer-sorts and Aethies, even the breeze felt calmer, though it had hardly caught to much all the while they'd been walking. Claude being glad they had any at all, as hot as it had been the past few days.

The storm the night before had left lacy scatters of twigs and leaves and knocked down spider webs. Clean and still damp, the leaves overhead and tangled in the grass, they looked pieces of stained glass. And the trees, when they nodded, they sounded clear as harp strings with nothing else to cut the sound.

Out of farmland use and the whiles of any humans at all, the stream had been left so clear, so delicious looking. Just begging for some little blond imp of a boy to come along and kick his heels in it.

Well, one already had. Claude didn't bother with another sigh. He pulled his shoes off and laid them in the stones at his side, stretching lazy as he reached his own toes towards the glittering surface.

And promptly jerked back with a yelp. "Child of mine? That's /cold/."

"I know," said Lucien. "I think it feels nice."

"Maybe if you're part bear. I've always halfway figured, you know."

They had some teasing hums between them and Claude crossed his legs, feet now on the warm pebbles along the bank where they damnwell belonged.

"I think I got that from your side of the family," his son suggested after a while. "Anyway, why do you think it's like that? I don't hear anybody around."

"That wasn't tagging along?"

"Well..." The boy knitted his fingers in his hair, tugging himself a wingtip curl along his temple. "I think I'd only notice Nene if she was /gone/."

"And as for our new friends?"

"They couldn't have gone far. They know we have candy." To which, he nodded. Ever so sure of himself.

Ah, children. Children had gotten him this far with their self-assured beings. And children had found him what was really a rather strange clearing on closer inspection. The stream wore deeper through some places in the grass than others, showing shifts of rock, glints of moss and tree roots sneaking by. It divided the clearing just about cleanly in half.

Besides, on the edge of the forest easing back into being, a great, old ash stood.

Covered in tiny flowers. Pink and violet and hints of white. All of them, growing in streaks as if the bark had long ago turned to soil, though the tree seemed healthy and strong otherwise.

Besides.

"Papa," said Lucian, voice hushed. "There aren't any birds here, are there?"

"No," Claude answered after a moment. "It's just you and I and /a bunch of stinkers who ran off from us/."

"Oh, so that doesn't include me?"

"Child of mine."

They had a few more hums, there in the quiet of the clearing.

There, before something very strange and very faint began to creep along Claude's Aether lines.

It felt like being tickled almost. Anyway, it made him smile. Lucien too.

And next, there his son darted off again, racing over the grass and into the middle of the clearing, where he stood staring into the sky and whistling. Expecting a giant Gust to come sailing down in the form of a giant bird? It might just be that.

Welcome!

Note that anything your characters do in the clearing may result in posts back of things happening around them, even if these aren't exactly invited. Something's lurking around here, and it wants a snack!

Feel free to bring your own fairies, ghosts, mages and seriously confused regular people.

"Cousins?" Conall thought about that for a moment. "I've never met a naga, but that doesn't mean there aren't any, I suppose. Have you ever seen one, Yan?"

Yan shook her head. "Only you."

Kostya frowned.

"What is like making fun of someone for cooking? The fact that people think there's something wrong with me for working for a spirit? I...am used to it I guess. It's mostly propaganda put out by the people who want to take over the land I rule to be honest."

When Nene changed into a humanoid form, he stepped back involuntarily. After all, he didn't want to accidentally get set on fire. Noticing her nakedness, Kostya blushed and looked away.

Albert relaxed when Jack didn't snap at him, a smile tugging on his lips at the reaction. He wasn't a ghost that was interesting. He turned to Susie who looked back in surprise. She giggled, no one has surprised her in a while. She didn't know who Jack was, but he was making their visit very enjoyable.

Albert grinned at Susie before he turned to Jack. "Do you mind telling us? I'm looking to learn something new."

"Oh, good," Joanna said. "It's just that I wear hijab for modesty, but since you are a girl it doesn't matter. And no, we don't have...Aethies?" Hopefully she'd gotten the pronunciation right. "If they're all like you, I wish we did have some."

"I don't mean really cousins," Summer said. "Like not your aunt or uncle's children. I mean... I mean genetically cousins, like the species are cousins. If species can be cousins." Could they? She would have to ask Ivy when she saw her sister next. "Anyway, I've met some. They were very nice to me." She smiled, a little wistfully. "Miss Chatterjee let me touch her tail."

"Not at all," he said. "In fact if you like, I'll show you my true form. For the moment though, I am a Shade, of Starside." Formal manners kicked in and he added, "I am called Jackson, grandson of Nancy, son of Christopher and Isobel, brother of Miranda and Charlotte, father to none and grandfather to none." And never would be, if the gods were merciful.

Though Pip could make you want a child. Pip could make you want anything.

It felt like being overwhelmed except not, like everything was happening at once but she could accept it and absorb it and spin in the water without drowning. Was this what being normal was like? "What sorts of wonderful things?" she asked. "I don't know of anything wonderful in my life-- well, except my family."

Jack let his eyebrows rise again. "What, haven't I said? I'm not human. Not remotely." He smiled and let Miranda rise to his mind; his teeth sharpened a touch. Then Charlotte, sweet and kind; everything about him became softer, gentler. "This is... a favorite form but it is not the one I was born to."

So... this wasn't home.

Andy eyed the area and its occupants for a bit before deciding not to give a fuck. Either he'd gotten a contact high from Jeff or he had fallen asleep on the subway, and either way bizarre groves appearing in the middle of New York City weren't really his problem. If he was dreaming, though, that meant he was lucid dreaming, which was kind of cool-- he'd always wanted to try that, ever since Leah claimed she could do it and annoyed him with her (entirely fictional) superiority.

He swung his backpack over his shoulder and looked around, interested, before deciding to approach the sole black woman in the place. Safer, generally, even if she was with a white dude.

"Hi," he said, coming within earshot. "So... come here often?"

((Andy is like fourteen.))

"No, Dad, I'm doing fine," Rachel said, tucking her cell phone under her ear and shifting her groceries to dig out the keys to her apartment building. "Seriously. ...no I'm not pining! I make bad relationship choices, I know that, but please realize that I dumped him?... yeah, call Tyler and try that shit on him." She laughed at her dad's response to that, which was short and unprintable. "Thought so. Hey, did you get my email about Thanksgiving?" She shoved the door open and went inside.

Her dad's voice cut off mid-transmission. Rachel would have been annoyed if she hadn't just turned up in a grove.

"Holy shit," she said, and dropped her groceries.

A shade that was something new. He wondered if there was any information about them in Amulet. He made a note to look it up when he got back home. Susie didn't know shades existed. She knew about ghosts and poltergeists, but not shades. She continued to learn more and more about Jack.

Jack's true form interested Albert. He wondered if Jack's true form ever scared someone. Albert had a list of fears, but when it came to things like this it never scared him. He stopped wondering why that happened and accepted it a few years back.

Albert nodded. "That sounds like how we greet the council." He held up his wrist to show a silver pendant with an Amethyst stone in the middle. "I'm from the Silver Family of Amulet."

"We didn't have a formal greeting in my village, but I have this from the Second Great Plane and Necromancy office." Susie lifted her wrist to show an identical bracelet and pendant around her wrist. "It shows that I work with Albert and has permission to be out and about."

The guy sitting next to her at the bar was broadcasting his thoughts so loudly, Maria actually felt the need to shield herself. He was unSkilled, which didn't quite explain it; most people had basic mental shields no matter their magical capability. Surface thoughts were one thing; this was simply obnoxious.

It was just a shame he wasn't her type. Annoying, yes, but neither cheating nor a criminal. She'd have to find someone else to kill; maybe the bar across the street would have better prospects.

Standing, she smiled politely at the bartender and left a generous tip for her drinks--non-alcoholic, of course, since she was working--and headed for the door.

As soon as she left, she stopped suddenly. This was not the street.

At least it wasn't a college this time, she supposed.

(OOC: Magic AU!Maria, because yay serial killers who are also powerful telepaths. If your character has any shielding ability, let me know, otherwise she's going to be totally impolite and read minds as she sees fit.)

This wasn't Miko's apartment.

Tsukino looked around as she adjusted the bag on her shoulder. She was her way to visit Miko and Mina to deliver some books and catch up when she stepped into this field, not the hallway to her apartment.

At least she wasn't scare like last time. It wasn't the first time this happened.

Tsukino sighed, she adjusted her bag again and walked over to a woman with a bag of groceries by her feet.

"Hello? Um, do you need some help with your groceries?"

Tsukino didn't know anything else she could say.

Nemo leapt down from his perch on the upper deck of Jenna. He meant to land neatly on the catwalk.

Instead, he landed neatly in soft soil.

He sniffed it, found it didn't smell like soil from any planet he'd been on, nor remotely like Jenna, and growled to himself. He could smell water nearby, though, and water was the whole reason he'd jumped down, so he stuck close to the trees as he padded toward the smell.

Nemo is about two and a half feet high at the shoulder and four feet from nose to the base of his tail. His tail is long, at least as long as his body. He's an orange mackerel tabby, and he only has one eye.

"May I take a break, baby?" Martina asked Teresa. She was growing stiff from the pose that she'd maintained for more than an hour since her last break.

Teresa nodded. "The light's not good now anyway. We can do more tomorrow."

"All right. Tell me when." Martina stood from the couch and twisted to stretch her lower back and hips. "Would you like some wine?"

Teresa grinned. "Yes please! Red."

"While you clean up, I'll get that for you."

Teresa nodded, already busy with her paints, and Martina walked toward the kitchen. She managed to resist looking at the portrait on her way.

The entry to the kitchen did not lead to the kitchen. It led to a forest clearing. Martina stopped dead and opened her mind. She couldn't pick up directly on any malice, despite the number of other people around, but there was something off that she couldn't quite identify.

This is Martina from the Magic AU.

Gabriel sighed as he stepped out into what should have been the lobby outside his office, but what in fact turned out to be some sort of clearing.

Why did this keep happening to him?

There was a woman nearby. He managed a wan smile. "Hello," he said politely.
