RP Update
Hello everyone! I just wanted to remind you that we have a
rainbowfic RP party coming up. The post will go up on Thursday, June 28th circa 9AM PST and the RP itself is expected to run through July 1.
I will be handling the welcome post, but due to my work schedule replies will be sporadic during the day and pick up during the evening. Everyone is welcome to amuse themselves with each other while I'm away. In fact, I would enjoy having something to read over lunch, so please do misbehave with extreme prejudice!
In the mean time, here we have some details on your settings and your hosts.
As seen in
http://rainbowfic.dreamwidth.org/198135.html
But, you don't have to read all that. Goodness!
It's around 4PM, though there are no clocks. It's also full on summer, a clear day and the humidity isn't what one would call comfortable.
~*~
Navigation
Text found around the villa is in English. The typography is very similar to modern script, though the kerning eccentric by current standards (phonemes such as CH and SH have a reduced space between the letters) and some capital letters may appear different (E for instance more resembles a C with a dash through it). 2012 brand names are no longer available, and those which exist in their places might come off as flowery or otherwise peculiar. Say, there's a brand of cognac called Coeval.
It is possible to find any amenity your characters might want somewhere in the Villa, although such things will be the most expensive possible iteration. I'm sure there are condoms. And they are *awesome*.
One would have to purposefully walk off of the Villa grounds to get sent home early. And it would be a lot of walking through some very hot and hilly countryside.
~*~
Exterior
There are no other buildings immediately visible from the villa itself, although one can see the pool from some rooms on the upper floor.
The facade if that of a classical manor house in pale shades. On closer inspection, several anachronous touches throw this off. Low, sweeping steps before the entryway, roof lanterns over the ballroom, enormous windows, wrought-iron rails for the porches and smooth, stone pillars. The front drive circles around an enormous fountain of medieval-style sea monsters
All of the windows and doors are open despite the fact the air conditioning is running. The exception to this being the window over the door which does not open, though it has been shot out. The glass has mostly been cleaned up.
~*~
The Fireflies
Throughout the Villa, one will find lead crystal fireflies. Most of these hang on monofilament from the ballroom ceiling, but I'm sure some have escaped. These are about 3/4 of an inch long, generally in clear glass, though some have different colored eyes. They're somewhat abstract, though it's discernible what they are. Their antennae are made of very fine silver wire and some were not rounded on the end, so it is possible to stick oneself.
~*~
The Ballroom
The floor exhibits an elaborate arabesque inlay in two shades of marble. Areas of interest are marked overhead with congregations fireflies, though actual signage is small and there are no directories. The roof lanterns match with vaults in the already high ceilings. Because the walls are bare and the windows uncurtained, the lines of the place come off quite sleek pretty much anywhere save the floor itself, that being largely clear. Chairs have been set up for a band or an audience, neither of which has taken them.
Towards the middle of things, one will find several banquet tables covered in all manner of high society finger foods, ranging from fresh fruit to artisan cheeses to steak tartar to... well, honestly whatever you care to imagine is just fine and probably around here someplace. Available plates are fine crystal and the utensils silver. (Note that all of the dishes are actually dishes this time around.)
"Sitting rooms" have also been arranged on Persian rugs around the periphery and close to especially nice windows. These consist of collections of matching tables and chairs, a coffee table and an end table or two, besides occasional intrusions of art pieces.
Other features include...
-A gallery of abstract lucite statues
-A glass vat of champagne: it's about as big as a spa and the champagne good, though perhaps not as cold as it should be
-A beautiful grand piano bearing the sign "Please do not play the piano unless you are good"
-Restrooms [Women, Men and As You Like]. They're all full of fresh flowers and violin music and they all have several vanities
~*~
The Bar
Appears in the ballroom, has obviously been brought in from elsewhere. It's dark, polished wood, but very old so the vanish has gone satiny in its age. It's also not really a bar, but a series of display cabinets. The top is glass allowing anyone waiting for their drink to inspect a compliment of antique weapons. The chocolate leather barstools have low, nailhead backs.
The sinks and taps are set into the wall, and rest of the alcohol is accessed by going past a beaded curtain into a store room that more resembles a gallery of all possible alcohol varieties. If can be made intoxicating on earth, it exists back there. Someplace.
The fridge up front doesn't hold so much of it, and is currently stocked for mai tais and adult milkshakes.
There's an espresso machine. The bartender can only make coffee with it, not frothed milk. And while there is a bartender, others are not discouraged from shaking their own drinks. Although they may get sassed for it.
Also found in the storeroom, a variety of Miani-style wines (strong, dark reds) of varying quality. All are named after mythological monsters, though I would doubt there's any actual Miani. One exception: several cases of a wine called Courtier. The Courtier wine is noxiously sweet and the vintner deserves a hining for it.
~*~
The Cigarette Lounge
A large room on the second floor of the wing which isn't the ballroom. The entrance is marked by two pillars rather than a door. It overlooks a lighted place in the garden that's especially full of jasmine. Found in the cigarette lounge itself, an assortment of purple velvet couches and cushions with a few round coffee tables between. The only lights are art glass pendants which don't cast more than a moody glow. Curiously, there are few ash trays despite the sign and the air smells of patchouli.
~*~
The Back Rooms
May be found in the vicinity of the cigarette lounge, either beneath it or reached from the same hallway. They include a selection of salons, bedrooms and elaborate bathing rooms. All are lusciously appointed in the sort of style the tends to include Egyptian perfume bottles.
~*~
The Basement
Door appears in the back of the bar and is locked, but potentially breakable. Past it one will find a wooden ramp leading into fluorescent lights and aisles of every snooty party trapping imaginable. It looks like a department store down there.
~*~
The Garden
Has been laid out in spirals, reaching off around fountains and statues, primarily of nymphs and satyrs, though there are also gazing balls, at least one sleeping dragon, and a small gazebo where someone left their wine glass. Most plants are evening or night-blooming and there is quite a lot of jasmine to be had. There are some peach trees. There fruit may appear greenish, but it is ripe and tastes faintly of melon. A patch of wine berries is also in season, should any visitors have an insatiable desire to wound themselves in pursuit of their delicious dainties.
The garden includes no fish ponds and no bird nests. However, there's probably dropped jewelry and other novelties in the fountains.
~*~
The Pool
Is a 10-15 minute walk from the west side of the villa. The way leading there is dotted with torn notebook pages. The pool itself is laid out formally and is quite deep throughout. Statues of armed women line the deck, though there are no chairs. The water is quite nice. Alas, it contains a corpse. He's of medium height and build with sandy blond hair, dressed as if for walking around town. He died of drowning, has no ID on his person, and he's been bobbing about eight hours.
~*~*~*~
Pip and Zephyr
Are your hosts this evening. And I just thought I should warn you about them quick...
Both of these characters have what appears to be thin silver wire embedded in their skin, particularly on the palms of their hands, but excepting their faces, necks, and bits. These are nerve enhancements. Why would they need such things? Well, they possess a form of telepathy which permits them to access the current thoughts of a person by touching them. If your character doesn't want their mind read, don't let the touching happen. If Pip or Zephyr persist, smack 'em. Yes, I did just give you carte blanche to slap the hosts.
If your character does get touched, it will be as if whoever did it is reading the posts, not just reacting to what your character does. Plus, I might have to OOC you. Feel free to PM me if you require additional details on how this ability works.
Zephyr
-Twenty-four
-Has obviously broken his nose in the past
-Is dressed like a rich brat trying to do light goth
--Including a mess of silver rings
-Has insects and roguchi clemantis tattooed anywhere he also has wires
Pip
-Eleven
-Is wearing a cutesy, sleeveless gingham sundress
--That's a little too short on her
--And a mess of rings. Vintage- quarter machine, excepting a silver one on her right hand
--No shoes
-Will be tending bar from a stepstool
--Suggests a Mai Tai this afternoon
Pip is an OK bartender. She tends to go overboard with nonalcoholic flavoring components.
